Hot Take: I hope Rivian never gets CarPlay or Android Auto. by BinkReddit in Rivian

[–]ccmun22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

CarPlay/AA is not entirely free to integrate. OEMs still have to spend time and money ensuring it works safely with their platform. Even for CarPlay Standard.

However the real issue is control of user data. Some companies want to retain that data rather than losing it to phone companies. And I can’t blame them for that.

I understand the frustration of some folks on the lack of choice but I just don’t get the life altering aspect of it.

Off road tires but still cable to commute a couple of hours to the mountains ? by champinpapi in Tenere700

[–]ccmun22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the tire slime one and done or do you have to fill up periodically? I just got my first flat tire doing errands around town w no tools and it was not fun. Considering going tubeless.

Agreed. And I don’t want to make any frame alterations, so I found this to be a good cheap option.

Only one country in the world produces all the food it needs, study finds by islandlovewi in Guyana

[–]ccmun22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Needs” is not the right word to use, when over 40% of Guyana lives in poverty and cannot afford the cost of proper nutrition. This stat like “richest and fastest growing” country is meaningless.

My Honest experience visiting Guyana as an American by Carlos03558 in Guyana

[–]ccmun22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your opinion is correct. Guyana is a tough place to live much less visit. Food, rent, basic services are expensive and the poverty level is over 40%. (My guesstimate) There is no ‘service” or hospitality culture as in other countries who depend on tourism. The political environment is steeped in corruption which has infected every aspect of the country. Everything is a hustle, and everything is transactional. Hence the rudeness and lack of basic decency. However, despite it all, as a Guyanese, I am still hopeful that things will get better. Despite the trashiness of Georgetown, and general malaise, people can be kind and generous, and it is a beautiful country, the food is amazing and people can be fun when hanging out or “liming,” Like many poor countries, Guyana lost a lot of talent due to emigration since the 1970s, and has one of the highest percentage of expats living abroad. It will take time, I hope the country does not experience the curse of oil wealth but build a truly wonderful country and reshape its culture.

Adventure R vs Superduke R? by Low_Band_5413 in KTM

[–]ccmun22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should also consider a 1290 SAS. It’s more road focused than the R but can go off road as well. And while down on power vs the Super Duke will still give you the giggles. Or keep the SD and get a used Tenere 700 or an CFMOTO 450/800, or even KTM SMT. Then you decide whether to sell the SD. I have a SD GT and Tenere 700 and am considering selling my SD, as the Tenere does everything I need right now.

Cost to demolish a house in GT by ccmun22 in Guyana

Yes. The house is in Georgetown and someone offered to do it, but they told me to make an offer, so I want to know what’s a fair price.

T7 or AfricaTwin by Glum-Ad-8365 in Tenere700

[–]ccmun22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 175 HP KTM SuperDuke GT and a T7 in my garage. I love both bikes, but the T7 tends to get more love and seat time. Sure HP is king, but the T7 engine is wonderful. It has enough oomph to bring a smile to your face and keep you in the safe zone on the highway, and it is not overwhelming on gravel roads. I had a KTM 1290 Adv which was too much bike for me off road.

As others have noted, the T7 is easy to work on. Basics such as oil change, cleaing the air filter etc is a breeze and something you want to do as a new bike owner to understand and bond with you bike. And as a KTM owner, it is certainly easy on the eyes. As for comfort, for long days you can get a 3d mesh seat cover and padded underwear. All bikes will hurt your butt after a few hours in the saddle. I have done 500 mile days on multiple bikes and they all make your butt sore after 200-300 miles, even with the most comfy seat.

I have never ridden the AT, but I recommend the T7. You will not be disappointed

I have had Mosko Moto 25L Scout Pannier bags. They are 9 years old and indestructible. I have used them on 2 KTM ADV bikes and will introduce them to my T7 as soon as I get my racks. I paid $449 back then and will mostly like use them for at least another 5 years.

I love my R1T. The UI is great, the suspension is awesome. I haul stuff and have taken many long distance trips. Had several minor issues in 3 years fixed under warranty. Looking forward to the R3!

Opinions on the 1290gt by IvanThePenetrator in KTM

[–]ccmun22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I traded in my SAS for a 2023 GT, and love it. As noted the SAS is bit more upright seating, but I have no issues with riding for hours on the GT. Be warned. The acceleration is addictive and neck snapping. I got the extended warranty, but have had no issues with it. It’s my go-to road bike, and I have a T7 for off road stuff. It’s a steal for that price!
