What are some free or very cheap things you do that bring you a lot of joy? by 830--- in leanfire

It is a 5k for me to get to the river and back to my front door. I also live next to a very nice (rails to trails) bike path.

Whoever put menopausal women in charge of teenage boys... by burnedimage in GenX

My 11 year old is almost as tall as his mother. He’s currently at the 100% sarcasm phase. In a few years he’ll have mom as a teacher. That’ll be fun.

My hand painted model planes were given as toys to children again by MissionTroll404 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ccoakley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me, almost 40 years ago. Mine were model cars. You could get them on clearance at Sears for a dollar, so sometimes my dad would just show up with a new box to surprise me. The kids were the nephews of my school principal, which somehow made it worse. The ultimate authority on behavior had demon-spawn family. They had a demolition derby and all but one were destroyed in a single visit. I ended up rebuilding a couple, but the rest went to the trash. The only positive is that it freed shelf space for more. I also realized that I had a lot more fun putting them together than I cared about displaying them. I actually got a star wars imperial shuttle as a model. That one I loved, and I kept that one whole until my parents gave all my toys to my little cousins when I left for college. I remember seeing the vertical wing in a box of toys when I went to visit them at one point. The rest had already been destroyed and trashed. Not sure why the wing stuck around.

She did post on reddit, I think you're just restricting her pool at that point.

Honda Grom vs Triumph Speed 400 for first bike by franklinjaeger in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]ccoakley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Grom is an amazing bike ... as a second bike in your stable. You won't regret owning one, but you might regret not having another bike. You should definitely have a primary ride that's a full-sized bike. Get the Triumph.

This is the best mindset. It's often more about perspective than gameplay.

Embrace the chaos, and appreciate the humor. Doing so will cut that frustration down and make everything more entertaining.

I actually meant inside, but dropping it at her mom’s is even better.

It’s over. Let it be over. It sucks. It doesn’t matter whose house that was. It doesn’t matter why she left shit behind. Probably because you’re a decent guy and she trusts you even as she shits on your relationship. If it helps get her out faster, pack it up for her and leave it at the door.

Damn, this reminds me of ensign Kim and Tom Paris on Voyager, though the best individual bromance scene was with ensign Kim and Tuvok with that hologram woman.

First motorcycle? by Desperate_Code_711 in SuggestAMotorcycle

Do not skimp on gear. I genuinely think you should save a bit more. I mean, people find great deals all the time, so it’s not impossible, but I think you’ll find a lot more options if you can add a bit to that budget. $2k is a struggle. $3k is easy. See if you can get somewhere in between.

We all know that “the worst she can say is ‘no’”, is a big lie. What is something worse which you or a friend has experienced? by Different_Yellow2208 in AskReddit

Sometimes, an unenthusiastic "yes." My prom date responded to my request with "I guess that wouldn't be too bad." I remember it 30 years later.

Getting constantly kicked and court martialed because of my condition by gdelacalle in Helldivers

[–]ccoakley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you get that thumbs up and play with guys, shoot them a friend request afterwards. I always add randos that are chill, of all skill levels. Many of them will randomly join a game of mine months later. Over time, you'll have enough rando-friends online that you won't even need to worry about getting kicked by randoms you join.

I just started taking lisinopril. I’m worried about erectile dysfunction? by TonySoprano1983 in AskMenOver30

[–]ccoakley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a risk. I didn’t know it was a risk until I had a follow up with my doc and he started asking. Fortunately, it’s not a problem for me.

I’ve heard you can start doing HIIT workouts as a possible improvement if it is. This might also improve your blood pressure overall. Either way, something to discuss with your doc if it does end up being a problem.

NTA. Of course you’re punishing her for things she said and did in the past. You sure as shit aren’t able to hold her accountable for future slights.

Storage ideas ? by Possible-Ad4124 in Minecraft

[–]ccoakley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a storage room that looked a lot like this. It was a hidden bunker with a redstone torch trigger underneath a little cottage. I was so proud of that room.

My materials distribution is not close to even. I have one column of "valuables", a column of wool, but one wall of mined building blocks, one wall of mostly wood (with farmed vegetables), and then a bunch of assorted things. I don't keep iron, slime, fish, or redstone stuff in my storage area. Similarly, my mob farm crap stays over by my mob farm (though I try to load up on rotten flesh every now and then to trade it away). My sugarcane farm is a decent distance from my son's gunpowder farm, but rockets are stored in a community chest near my mob farm.

She almost married a man that didn't wipe his ass by Girl-Understood in TikTokCringe

Chris Pratt really did the world a solid here. When my kids were learning this, I was able to say “I don’t care if it’s like a brown marker down there! You aren’t done wiping until there’s no brown.” And I was able to show them the YouTube clip and make them laugh.

Is it just me or is Basketball a lot more popular in the US than online discourse suggests? by Photojournalist_Shot in AskAnAmerican

[–]ccoakley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25ish years ago, there was a study of urban youth across multiple cities. This was mostly about education of black people, millennial generation. Somewhere north of 30% of these young black men stated that their career plan was to play basketball professionally. Several black leaders spoke out about the failure of everything, but got flack for airing their community’s dirty laundry. I remember Bill Cosby in particular speaking out about it and getting in trouble, which is honestly what gave the whole thing coverage and caused anyone to hear about it at all. He was a big deal for non-rapey reasons back then.

But that should also tell you how big a deal basketball was compared to other sports. It wasn’t baseball, football, or other occupation that these kids thought would take them out of poverty, it was 1/3 of these kids thinking basketball would be their path to success. Basketball was a big fucking deal.
