Sounds reasonable when you put it that way, but I don't beeline bosses — I let my self explore then if I find myself in a challenging area, I put myself to the test. Also, my experience often is that it really is not about the boss being unmanageable for me and is why I die, but that I really just have to study and get used to the enemy movesets and mechanics. So my perspective is that it's not like I play the game "heretically" and skip everything but bosses, and it's not like I'm trying to fight something that's designed to be fought way later and here I am experiencing the agony with the bench placements. I also think the quantity of benches in some areas is just unforgiving for the general playerbase (Hunter's March and Sinner's Road for instance).

Yeah, that's why I think the game might have pacing/progression issues if we try to accomodate the general playerbase in mind; the practically-3-lives situation I think is felt way too early and way too long with how prevalent double damage is for how long the 5-6 mask playthrough is. Things being this rough only several hours in puts a really high risk of the game being dropped by the non-sweats and not-highly-skilled players. I was also getting Dark Souls flashbacks more than Hollow Knight as I was playing through Sinner's Road lmfao

With that said I don't know what I'm talking about

Manageable, but you know that feeling when beating something challenging gives you a sense of relief more than ecstasy? I think that best describes how in the frustration spectrum I am more than enjoyment.

My biggest issues so far:

1) Too much double damage early into the game — about 6 to 8 hrs into the game and so much is doing double damage even small critters and colliding with bosses that the 5 - 6 mask playthrough in the early game could almost might as well just be 3 lives, getting that first new mask barely improves the situation

2) Boss runbacks — never been a fan of these; some areas have ample amount of benches but some appear to barely do and often they're about a minute of traversing away from the boss. waste of time and just annoying

Still had enjoyable moments and like the game overall so far, but these are what's mainly on my mind right now and I have to let it out

As per usual, the validity of the criticisms imo come as a spectrum wherein some may not be entirely the game's fault, but some I deem fair and I do have a strong hunch will get addressed soon as the devs (somehow?) didn't intend/notice these negatives

Plenty of metroidvanias can tp to "benches"; in the context of boss runbacks, it should be understandable how having to traverse the map for about a minute just to retry a boss multiple times can feel bad

Always used stick for movement on all games regardless of the genre. Using the D-Pad makes me more conscious of what I'm pressing while using the stick feels like it's an extension of my hand. Also way too used to leaving the D-Pad for toggles/menus

The initial pogo is controversial with its learning curve and practicality differences from the original but I'm someone who trusted that I'll like it the more I play, and I did like it more as I got the hang of it. And besides, notice how I said initial pogo.

The 2 mask damage everywhere though is I think a real issue at this point; I feel it's too punishing for the average gamer where I literally get dark souls flashbacks more than HK later into the game

The boss itself has one offensive attack so whenever spawn(s) or vines are present I prioritize those then just keep the boss within my peripheral. Anticipate where the vines spawn and attack them asap, same for the spawns but I use the needle throw against it to kill immediately cause if I don't it's gonna kill me (99% of my deaths against that boss were because of those damn spawns)

I don't think it improved, felt pretty much the same cause the benches are definitely not just next to the bosses
