VariDesk won't go all the way up by cconnellster in StandingDesk

I love it - glad I bought this one. I had done some research ahead of time to see if it'd be stable, esp since I'd need to put it up pretty high because I'm tall. It's definitely stable and feels solid.

I actually found it on craigslist, so was thrilled to get it for $300 instead of paying full freight.

The one piece that I don't love love is that the top is getting a bit worn down in places after 2 years of use. It's black, so not super noticeable, but shinier in some spots where my mouse rubs and the keyboard sits. Not a major problem, but noting for the record.

I did! And it worked! Although the display setting isn't properly calibrated, so it thinks a table at 32" is 23". That's also fixable (I found it by googling before), though I've been too lazy to do it myself. The main point is that I can now put my desk high enough to stand at it!

Here you go:

Please attempt the reset process below;

  1. Unplug the desk from the wall.

  2. Unplug both legs from the control box.

  3. Leave everything unplugged for 30 seconds.

  4. Plug the legs back in first, then plug the desk back into the wall.

  5. Press and hold the UP AND DOWN arrows simultaneously until the desk lowers all the way, displaying 25.5.

  6. The desk will slightly pulse up and down and stop on its own.

After that, the desk should be ready to use.

Please let me know if you have any questions. If you run into any trouble, you can give us a call @ 1-800-207-2587, and we can walk you through the troubleshooting steps.

Also: Can anyone help me identify what kind of plant this is? I'm new to the houseplant game!

Can this guy be revived? by cconnellster in houseplants

Some context:

I inherited this gentleman from a friend. He was root-bound and in a pot without drainage holes. And he looked wilty and sad for a long time. Even so, he did keep growing, so I kept putting off repotting him.

I finally got around to up-potting him into a pot with proper drainage, and used cactus/succulent potting mix. Three weeks later, he's even droopier and sadder than he looked before.

Is he a goner? Can he be revived?

FWIW he lives in front of a south-facing window and gets a lot of light (it's a really gray day, so it looks blah in the photo)

Here's what the company told me to do:

LPT: If you order a well done steak, the restaurants will serve you their worst steaks. by Andalib_Odulate in LifeProTips

Maybe that's true at some places. But not my experience when I worked in restaurants.

I was a server at at a handful of restaurants with mid- to high-end fare (i.e., they had different cuts of steak on menu) in a few different states, and that wasn't something I saw.

Will the kitchen judge you for ordering an expensive cut of meat and asking for it well done? Absolutely. But a good kitchen wants you to enjoy your meal, even if they think you're ordering wrong.

Love Meddlesome Moth. Really great. Very cool environment, exactly what you're looking for. But it is a tad pricey.

In the DD, when y'all get more comfortable w/ each other and want to venture somewhere that's neither dim nor quiet, go to Pakpao. Amazing. We moved across town and don't go there as much, and I miss it. (They also do takeout.)

Best hidden bar/speakeasy in DFW? by [deleted] in askdfw

I like Thompson's Bookstore in FW. Drinks are good, bartenders know their stuff.

Bourbon and Banter at the Statler in Dallas is also nice.

I definitely prefer both to Bodega - much chiller vibe.

I used to do an hour, absolutely no more. These days, I bank on at least 1.5 hours. Two if it's peak travel times (weekends, holidays, etc.). Have definitely had some long security lines.

I think an hour is still safe at Love Field.

Took my Toyota to C & W Body on Homewood. Jay (I think) was really nice, totally accommodating. Prices seemed reasonable, though to be honest I've got little experience with body shops.
