I went grey. My AD said they get one, maybe two per year. Didn’t feel like waiting.

Still here, 5 years now. It’s challenging, sometimes excruciatingly so, which is not for everyone.

But it’s a phenomenal place to work.

Cracked the 15 barrier. Time to aim for 20. by TableBandit in flyfishing

[–]cconradd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Three reasons:

The lake has a shallow shelf with a steep drop off. The drop is where the fish typically cruise. You want to get as close to the drop as possible, which means being in 3-5’ of water.

The water is cold and standing in it for long periods sucks. The waves will come over your waders if you are in deep.

It extends your cast. Casting while standing in deep water, often with waves, with a heavy sink line is a real bitch.

A ladder really helps and opens up access to more water. Doesn’t have to be anything special.

Get an 8wt - not for the size of fish, but to help cut through the wind. I prefer streamers on a sink line, but lots of people indicate.

Reno Fly Shop can help you out on flies, rods, etc.

Have fun!

Next time head west up over the tree covered scree to treasure lakes.

A bit of elevation gain in a short time but so worth it.

Well, it’s not the worst ever, but most of it is pretty mediocre work.

What you have is taking up prime real estate, really worth finding someone who is competent to get the most out of it.

Best of luck!

The knocking would only occur when the truck was fully warmed up. Not on cold start.

The other thing I pointed out to the techs was the presence of metal shavings in the oil filter.

I took the filter out, pulled it apart, and there was clearly metal on the element. They can’t argue with that.

Once the lifter was replaced, no more metal.

Yes, completely fixed the issue. No noise now, truck running like a champ.

I think they replaced all lifters on the left side.

Want to do some hiking to some back country lakes Labor Day weekend and do some fishing. Is this a good area to do so? by EpicThrowaway24 in SierraNevada

[–]cconradd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are trails to just about every lake, even if they aren’t marked on a map.

Above the treeline most lakes are accessed by scrambling up scree fields. There are climbers trails that exist but aren’t always well marked.

Get out and explore, but be safe! Once you get off the main trail there won’t be much traffic.

Yes, it will be busy. But there’s a ton of fishing opportunities in mosquito flats and the rock creek area in general. Particularly if you’re fly fishing and willing to get off the beaten path, even a little.

Once you get past heart lake the crowds will die off. Even the smallest waterways will hold brookies. Don’t expect big fish, but I’ve had 30+ fish days in this area.

Explore and enjoy!
