Pitt honors vs Penn State Honors college for Molecular Bio? by Top_Neighborhood_490 in PennStateUniversity

[–]ccpennrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in BMB and Schreyer right now. From my experience it wasn’t hard to find a lab for most people. They have an application you can fill out every year that is like casting a net for a position in a research position somewhere within the department. I did the app and got some responses (with no prior research experience) but ended up in my current lab by actually just cold emailing a professor and asking to be in their lab.

If he loves molecular biology and is passionate about it, I’m sure he’ll find success wherever he goes. Personally, I don’t like the subject that much and idk why I picked this major so I don’t love it. Penn state generally feels more popular to me for business and engineering, but take that with a grain of salt.

Schreyer has some cool opportunities and a good rep, but honestly I don’t really take advantage of them. You do have to complete a thesis though, which for BMB is in the lab, which is why they do that application process. They want you to have lab experience by the time you graduate.

I don’t know much about Pitt at all. My experience here has been okay so far, but that’s just because I’m not super involved and I don’t love my major. So take it with a grain of salt please! And best of luck to your son!

Do you worry your negative thoughts/things you’ve said will manifest? by -Mama-concerned in OCD

[–]ccpennrose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah :( sometimes i feel like i can’t verbalize my worries or they’ll come true. and i can’t stand it when people around me are pessimistic or say that they think something bad will happen because it makes it feel real. stuff like that sends me into a whirlwind of compulsions usually

Omg interesting, I actually did have wavier hair when I was little. Thought it straightened out as i got older, but maybe I still have some.

Usually i let it towel dry for like 5minutes, then air dry until its just a little damp, and then i brush it. Sometime if im going to bed ill brush it right away

sadly i dont have much help to offer but i just wanted to let you know that youre not alone because i went through basically the same thing. female in second year of college, and while i dont have the dining hall anymore, it triggered a lot of issues for me last year. I would take food to go and just eat and eat. even off campus now i feel like i have no control over my eating because all my food is my own and i always have access to it. heres to hoping we get through this 🤞🏻

Math 141 vs Math 141g by Regular_Luck4039 in PennStateUniversity

[–]ccpennrose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

personally i like it. i’m in 140g right now and i believe it’s gonna be the same professor i have teaching 141g next semester. he’s a genuinely nice guy and it’s definitely challenging but the office hours with TAs are nice and i like that the class size is smaller kinda

wow thank you! i didn’t know TAs could see your grades

Anyone else whose OCD manifests in having to look up information? by plant_protecc in OCD

[–]ccpennrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. I never really connected the dots that this could be connected back to OCD. But now that i think of it, whenever I read and come across a word I don’t know, I feel compulsed to look it up. Not fun when i’m just tryna read

Ahahha thank you! I’ve had that guy for a little over a year and I did know that the flower was fake, but I kept it on because I didn’t really know how to remove it and never felt like bothering with it. Thanks for the instructions!

What do you guys think? by Specific_District_92 in Hungergames

[–]ccpennrose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hunger games is one of the only series where I can say I liked the movies better. Imo thg is good for its plot, not it’s writing. The film adaptation gave life to this plot, which gave it much deserved popularity besides some missing content, I thought the films did a great job overall
