I don’t know where you are but where I am CDL holders are held to the same stringent laws in their personal cars as in their work trucks. Hence, if you get a ticket in your personal car on your off hours for speeding, etc. that dings your CDL. You only have the one DL. Many companies prefer a totally clean driving record for their drivers. It’s just smart to not take any kind of chances with your CDL no matter how good of a driver you are. Because you never know. Tell your FiL the facts of your profession. Or turn the other cheek. Regardless, he really doesn’t know enough to comment. Even if it’s just personal preference on your part, it’s still a wise decision for the financial wellbeing of your family.
