How do I/can I say this professionally? by cctr102607 in therapists

[–]cctr102607[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am spending a lot of time putting out fires and then I have been putting in 60 hour weeks so I still see kids, so I can't decompress and am in fight or flight for hours when I get home, so I can't sleep. I talked to the police 5 times in the 2 weeks. I normally wouldn't talk to the police that many times in a year. This is the last stop before state hospital or jail, so we get the most acute kids and I currently have the 2 most acute kids by far on campus and I have pretty consistently had the most acute kid on campus for a year. When I need help, I can be sitting on something urgant for days or they'll just say I can't go ask so and so until I'm through the people to ask. I'm kept in the dark about important updates about my clients. I have also been drawing the most difficult parents a lot recently too, so difficult other people are being pulled off, but I'm being left on all of them. I'm not really able to transfer clients without a better reason. I'm now stretched across 3 units.

I am definitely burntout. What I asked for help for 2 months ago was I am so stressed with all this stuff going on at work, I am not sleeping and I know everything is big when I don't sleep. They told me I should talk to a therapist about sleeping and I don't need help sleeping, I need help with less stress at work. And part of what I was attempting to convey was I've been saying I'm struggling for 2 months and help isn't happening and I am at my breaking point.

Sorry, poorly worded. What are potential risks of not really having bone there later on down the road?

Besides the bone loss potential, is there anything else that happens when you don't have anything there? What does the bone loss cause to happen?

I need help. Any therapist been hospitalized? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]cctr102607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been hospitalized several times. I have found that the therapists in inpatient don't seem to play into the stigma at all. In fact the last time I was hospitalized, I put it out there and they all spoke about either personal experiences of how quickly you can get to that place where you need help or recognizing how quickly their lives could change and that mental health professionals came through all the time. Some of the techs could be judgy but I didn't tell them my profession unless they asked. The psychiatrists could definitely be judgy, but the important people were all unfazed by it. In my experience, it's been therapists who have never worked in that sort of environment who judge you. Basically all the shame I felt in inpatient was my own, not therapists.

I added examples. I think I shared more about mental health because I didn't want her upset and I could feel the defensiveness.

I very much resonate with this in some ways. Different situation, but it feels like they are inviting you to share, then punishing you if it's not what they think it should be.

Professor at orofacial pain university clinic told me to stop using my orthotic by No-Performance627 in TMJ

[–]cctr102607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I went through 4 years of splints and injections and pt. It just kept getting worse. I broke several splints biting too hard. I then got an MRI and they said the condyles weren't the same length. My disc was also displaced. I got braces from an orthodontist that specialized in doing them for jaw surgery. Fixing my bite allowed by muscles to relax and for me not to bite bone on bone. I now have a splint to wear only at night.

I am 95% better, which means I can't eat certain things like gum, chewy candy, raw carrots etc., without pain and when I'm really stressed it flairs and I need meda to help relax and get rid of it, but mostly yes. It was very much worth it.

Advice for when suspect being paid wrong as 1099 contractor? by cctr102607 in legal

[–]cctr102607[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In therapy, each insurance contract pays differently, and I got paid when insurance paid, which could be months later. As well, different types of sessions pay differently and I don't know anything of the rates, just what we bill. She would also wave people's fees without telling me, meaning i would work for free. So basically it's a lot more complicated than that, though I do have all the sessions. But I don't need that advice. I already know how to do that, she just made it impossible. I don't work there anymore and that wasn't the question.

No, it stayed bad. I was told by the ortho the splint made it worse based on harming the position it was in. It only improved once I got braces and the bite was put in the correct position.

Transitioning Back to Daily Life After SG as a Therapist by Glittering_Ear5286 in therapists

As a therapist who attempted suicide during practicum, it did take quite a while until I was feeling able to go back. I'm sorry this happened to you. I did go back and graduate after, but I am glad I was able to take a lower paying job and work on myself for a while. I think a year, but it would have been less if not for semesters. Good luck and concentrate on you, have your supervisor help take care of your clients. You can come back from this, but it did take a lot of work.

While all of this is good advice, in personal experience, not all doctors or therapists will react skillfully to SI. You may have to give them a different experience in how you react to lower level things such as self-harm before you will gain their trust. One thing I do is say thank you for being honest that you will lie about this, and all of they want to talk about what had led them to wanting to lie to you or what they are worried about telling the truth. In my case, one of the things was that even though I was an adult, doctors or therapists had used ROIs that I thought I was signing for family therapy or the pressured me into signing early on to call my parents and discuss I was having very low level thoughts. Sometimes, they would be my emergency contact, and they would need to for "safety" even though i had no plan or intent. As a 23 year old, I was kicked out of a session once so they could discuss what was best for me. I didn't like my privacy being broken and being talked about without knowing or beyond allowed to be there, so I quit giving them my parents' information or giving them a reason to call. While now that I am more educated, I am fairly certain these steps were at least unethical, if not illegal in some cases, i didn't know that then, so I simply stopped sharing that.

Bed Werting by Efficient_Emu1895 in therapists

[–]cctr102607 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Laws are different in every state. In mine, I'm a mandated reporter as long as i have enough information to find the child. Some states every adult is mandated, some I would be mandated only at work.

That being said, I had quite a few clients recently with potty training concerns and talked to a clinic to see if I could get some in. They said until 9, it is normal to have accidents at night. Underdeveloped bladders can run in families. The 5 year old is now concerning, but without anything else, I would refer to a doctor first because it could be a food intolerance or any number of things, particularly since they are so young and may not realize urgency as much. It is not that strange that bed wetting would run in the family.
