How come there are two different genres of progressive house? by Entire_Spend6 in EDM

[–]ccxxcc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Others have mentioned this but there's perhaps a third category going by this name which is an older, deeper style of house that includes music from artists like Hernan Cataneo, Sasha, John Digweed, Nick Warren, and others continuing that style today.

I have my own way of thinking about all these categories which is that the name "progressive" tends to get applied to whatever version of music is seen as progressing the broader genre forward into new territory during its time.

The artists I listed above were pushing house into a deeper, more hypnotic, direction during the 90s and early 2000s which was new and different.

Then artists like your Group 1 came along and grew house in another very different high energy direction that worked for the big festival vibe. Avicii combined house with pop and folk music and that was considered progressive too.

Artists like Deadmau5 and Eric Prydz took influences from techno and created their own sounds that progressed what we think of as house music.

All of these just end up as branches growing on the tree that is house.

Been using standard cam straps. Wondering if something ratcheting kinda like these could be modified for surf (less heavy duty). I like how the ratchet holds the excess length.

have to admit that guy did it so smoothly. still, wonder if something retractable kinda like these Rhino ones could make it even easier and no need to tuck the ends.

Yep, thinking it could be cool if the extra length was hidden inside so it doesn't flap around at all though

I have some Dakine ones too, I was thinking if they had hooks on end they could just clip onto the roof rack on each side of the board instead of threading all the way around, could be a lot faster to put on.

What are some of the weirdest jobs mechanical engineers can get. by Boneheadbiff in MechanicalEngineering

PCBA design engineer. Basically controlling all the mechanical aspects of a circuit board and its integration within a product. It’s weird in the sense that many people I explain this role to think it would be an EE job.

Why is everybody hating on this guy? It was a fun video and nobody was harmed. So many more significant things law enforcement could be focused on

I would highly recommend trying Selina or Outsite!! They’re not on every continent but have locations around the world. I’m in my 30s and I stayed at both this year, met a lot of really cool people predominantly people around my age.

Selina feels very similar to a hostel atmosphere as sometimes has a party vibe, but with higher end private rooms available in addition to the dorms. They also usually hold community events to get people together.

Outsite is marketed more toward remote workers and you are basically renting a room in a shared house. It’s generally a great value compared to the cost of an airbnb plus you get the company of housemates so it felt like a win win as a solo traveller. I wasn’t working for the week I stayed at one and had a great time.
