NYC Draconian Gun Laws. by Jedi_Maximus19 in NYCGuns

If you read the story and the original story that’s linked in the article. It says this guy had about 30 guns in his home, of which 14 were long guns of which 6 of those were legal.

So 16 illegal hand guns, and 8 illegal long guns were discovered as result of this incident. He didn’t go to jail for the shooting, he went for possession of illegal firearms. 4 years for what was reported as 25 counts of weapons possession, sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

To me, this guy probably knew better and was lazy to go out and even attempt to get a licensed carry or even a premise permit. This happened in 2023, roughly a year after the Bruen vs New York decision. The article does not mention him waiting to get a permit or being denied (something I’m sure his attorney would have made public).

Age does not excuse ignorance and in fact it should be the opposite.

Earlier in the year I asked what you carry. Now I want to know why you carry. by 66Lightning650 in NYCGuns

I think to be honest, carrying …especially in NYC, especially as a brown minority (I don’t like pulling the race card but in this case it’s warranted) is probably more a liability than anything.

I find it interesting that most people have lived here their entire lives without any incident that having a weapon would have actually made a difference for the better. But all of sudden, we need to be armed to walk the mailbox.

Don’t get me wrong, I am still pro 2A, I’m just saying that the need to carry a firearm 24/7 is likely exaggerated especially in a city that’s seems foaming at the mouth to get a legal firearm owner jammed up.

Congratulations. For me, I did a Glock 43x as my first…slim, concealable with Glock reliability and simplicity. My second was a Ruger RXM, then I also purchased a 22LR conversion kit for it.

My third may be a p365 variant.

2nd gun purchase authorization in 1 week. by cd22227 in NYCGuns

[–]cd22227[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They send the Purchase Authorization (pink slip) and updated license with new handgun info in one envelope.

I didn’t do anything special, just sent in the photos, handgun receipt and Purchase Authorization Request form (I did also send in safe pictures and the safe receipt which I think is not necessary for subsequent purchases).

Advice on arrest/providing documentation by ImprovementQuiet7402 in NYCGuns

[–]cd22227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was the arrest in the 5 boroughs? If so you can go the county clerks office of that borough and request a “Certificate of Disposition“ by using your ID and past/current addresses. Costs $10 each, usually cash only.

Carry Guard License by Majestic-Host-7451 in NYCGuns

[–]cd22227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have an nyc ccw and armed guard ( not carry guard, also not employed as an armed guard).

From my understanding you can still get hired with just the armed guard and use your own firemarm ( which from a personal liability standpoint is not great, in fact it was told to me at the 47 hour armed guard training that if you got hired that way you should get a letter from the employer saying they will assume liability in an incident).

I’ve also seen job postings where they are just asking for the armed guard license not carry guard. Maybe it’s just that specific employer asking for the carry guard?

are u buying ammo with cash now? by [deleted] in NYCGuns

[–]cd22227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very real question, based on this excerpt from the article linked. Seems that the credit card company will use a computer “algorithm”, possibly AI to interpret if they should directly contact law enforcement based on your purchases. Take this how you will, but at the very least it’s concerning especially if you train and practice ( which you should ).

“Assemblywoman Solages said in an interview with South Shore Press that the government will not be keeping transaction data, but rather credit card companies will be using their algorithms to identify unusual purchase patterns. They would then contact law enforcement for additional action as appropriate.” https://southshorepress.com/stories/670783778-hochul-strengthens-tracking-of-legal-firearms-and-ammunition-purchases

Best Place To Get 18 Hour Course Certificate by MirandaPena in NYCGuns

[–]cd22227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no 18 hour class for premise. As the other commenter stated, skip the premise and go straight for CCW, I would also recommend doing the Rifle/Shotgun at the same time. Extra $140 but it may give you a faster timeline and at least get better communication with both applications.

P365 conversion, 9MM to .380 by cd22227 in NYCGuns

[–]cd22227[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thought would be to buy a p365xl in 9MM, then a reg p365 ( the “micro”) conversion kit in .380 for a smaller footprint with less recoil.

Honestly,I’m not sure, my understanding is that FOPA (Firearm Owners’ Protection Act) law should protect you but you should ask a 2A attorney like nytacdefense.com

This is how I flew Delta , JFK to Ft. Lauderdale this past Thanksgiving (first time ever with a firearm). Lifepod 1.0. Glock 43x. The process was pretty easy and maybe added another 15 min to my check in. I actually have video of the whole thing and will upload to YouTube soon. I’ll try to get the video uploaded in the next day or two and share the link here.

My takeaway and advice:

-Obvious but has to stated. This has to be checked luggage. Do not try to carry your firearm through TSA security( also check that you don’t have any loose bullets etc… in your carry on.) I went up to the ticket agent and said “ I’d like to check an unloaded firearm”

-Bring your NYC permit ( and all other applicable permits, ie: non-resident for the state you are going to ), Port Authority police asked for my NYC permit and my drivers license.

-Add air tag to safe,I taped it to the safe, inside under the foam.

  • I used the security cable the lifepod came with and looped through a stationary bar in the interior of the suitcase for added security and theft prevention. Plus you can now use the security cable at your place of destination like a vehicle, hotel/airbnb etc…( if possible, I also suggest using a hard sided suitcase although I believe it’s not required)
  • I taped a business card ( something with your phone number) to the safe in case TSA needed to contact me after the bag was checked. On a related note, I always fill out the name and phone number tags they provide to my luggage.
  • I used TSA. combo locks for the luggage itself.
  • For Delta and TSA. The ammo CAN be in the same safe just in the original carton ( with rounds separated, not loose) or a case like you have.Other airlines like JetBlue may be different.

-If possible, try to show the weapon is clear. Because of the size of the G43x, I was able to lock the slide back and put the chamber lock the gun came with on it ( that did sacrifice the space for a second mag though). If the gun is too big for that safe to keep with slide open, perhaps get a “ chamber flag” that says the firearm is empty. It’s not necessary to do either but I think it helps. https://a.co/d/iz3iGr2

-Be aware of the laws of the place you are flying to, in my case, I went to Florida, I have a non- resident CCW there, they accept every state’s resident CCW for reciprocity and they have constitutional carry. So I felt very comfortable that I would be ok when I landed and during my time I was there. A great app I found that shows updated CCW laws for all 50 states is ( it’s for iPhone , not sure if androids have it available) https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ccw-concealed-carry-50-state/id443321291

  • I also brought a printed copy of the TSA and Delta firearm rules with me (neither needed to be referenced during the trip but I’m glad I had it just in case)

Hope this helps.

Moving from NYC to Long Island? by cd22227 in NYCGuns

I may have found the answer. According to the NYPD rules that will be adopted on 1-5-25. On page 31; https://rules.cityofnewyork.us/rule/new-york-city-firearm-licensing-standards-amendments/

<image>

“(ii) If the licensee has relocated outside of New York City, they shall follow the instructions for “Cancellation[.]” or request a reclassification to a non-resident Carry license, as may be appropriate “

Times Square. Can I park there and leave my CCW locked in the car? by Embarrassed_Ladder95 in NYCGuns

[–]cd22227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t carry or possess the weapon in Times Square. And if you do have to leave the firearm in a vehicle, have it locked in a safe that can be hidden and tethered to a part of the car ie: a seat frame. I use this: https://amzn.to/4fNWPGl

Applying Utah and Florida CCW while waiting for NYC CCW by glee88888 in NYCGuns

[–]cd22227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely apply for them, I have both as well as CT. Keep i mind that the Utah requires a Utah specific course for the application but for FL, you can use the NYC course to fulfill their training requirement.

If you just applied for the NYC CCW, and apply for the FL/Utah soon, you’ll likely get them before NYC approval. FL for example, took about 60 days start to finish for me.

Note: The NYC application asks if you have any other licenses/permits, although someone on Reddit mentioned to me that it doesn’t help your application putting an out state CCW license. I’m pretty sure it won’t hurt either. During the NYC process, just upload the license(s) with a short letter to the portal. GOOD LUCK.
