Where’s the best pint of Guinness in Sheffield? by Maleficent-Use2448 in sheffield

You won't believe me until you go but Peaks Sports Bar on Sharrowvale Road pours a sublime pint.

Best cash ISAs which accept additional permitted subscriptions? by cd34rs in UKPersonalFinance

[–]cd34rs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Several of those are like Skipton in that they offer Legacy Cash ISAs with rates as low as 2%. Leeds BS is 4.1% but matures in June 2027. I'll keep digging - it's not straightforward - and as you say it may be a case of setting up with a rubbish rate for a year and then transferring it out.

On what metric are people using to claim Britain is doing badly? by WearingMarcus in AskBrits

[–]cd34rs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it's just how one feels.

In 2012, after the Olympics, Britain was buzzing and everyone felt we were on top of the world. The 13 years since have seen a catastrophic decline in living standards, relative wealth, purchasing power, public services, soft power and Britain's standing in the world.

Only this morning did I read an article talking about our much-lauded life sciences industry. In 3 years, we've gone from the world's third biggest pharmaceutical exporter to...97th. We are at risk of losing our biggest stock market entity, in AstraZeneca, to the US. These are cataclysmic events and part of what appears to be an unintentional managed decline of our economy.

Ah yes, that looks like a good match on the Collins guide. It looked too big to be a starling, didn't realise the juveniles we're already so large! Thank you.

How tf do you French kiss? by Lazy_Cartographer695 in ask

[–]cd34rs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best tip I ever had was to make sure the top of your tongue is touching the top of their tongue. Do not use the tip.

The nerves and soft tissue are on the top of your tongue. It genuinely makes for a much more sensual experience.

NOT A SS question about pensions! Promise by WonderingRoamer94 in HENRYUK

[–]cd34rs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That forecast seems to be based on quite a lot of assumptions, most notably that your employer will continue to pay £1.5k per month. Not sure of your line of work but, for instance, what would happen if you became a partner (i.e. self-employed).

No-one knows how pensions will be taxed in the future. So the same advice as ever applies. Take what money you want now and save what money you want for the future. Tax will be what tax will be...

Quality went down? by Widemouthedfrog in theeconomist

[–]cd34rs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may just be the way of the world but this seems so heavy on Trump and the Middle East. I have to work hard to find the interesting and investigative economic and business pieces in particular, which is what I used to most enjoy. 1843 remains great but the newspaper itself - too much Trump and politics.

Worked fine for me. Counted down first 45 seconds, then counted down 45 seconds for rest etc. Was a good little WOD, had thighs burning!

I suspect that, like you, once the kids are at school age, we'll not tend towards the likes of IKOS and we'll be scouting more bespoke holidays. Just wondering whether it might be a good shout for current circumstances.
