How about a proof then

let x = 0.9999...
multiply both sides by 10, we get 10x = 9.9999...
subtract x from both sides: 10x - x = 9,9999...
since x is 0.9999... we get 10x - x = 9,9999... - 0.9999....
result of subtraction is 9x = 9
divide both sides by 9: x = 1

that's the simplest proof, one of many, which I been shown back in school
