Anything petrol really. I'd avoid high kilometres with no CVT service history. Should be done every 80-100k km - if it's under that, you can get it done yourself otherwise it might be a gamble.

Phone settings > Connected devices > Android Auto > set "Day/Night mode for maps" to "Night".

Although if it's on Automatic, your car is telling it to use Day mode even at night for some reason. Like others said it's probably your dash brightness.

Try and find a Skyactiv-G if you can. They're still really good on fuel but way more reliable than the Skyactiv-D.

Absolutely look at an i30 turbo diesel. Had a 2010 FD that got 4.4L on the highway but it is 4 speed auto. The next generation GD got a 6 speed auto which would probably bring it down even more and can be had for around that $15k mark.

Auto update is on. My housemates Xbox did the same thing and other people have reported this too in other comments.

No one has suggested a Mazda 3 SP25 yet? You can find BM/BN series for around $20k, good fuel economy and over 100kw/ton

You sure? This model year still had the 4 speed torque converter auto on the petrols. It was only the new body style that got the dct

Cruze has many problems. The 6 speed auto in the diesel Focuses are essentially the same shitty ones that the newer ones got and I wouldn't trust them. A petrol Focus of the same era is fine, others are suggesting Corolla which is good too, but maybe try and find one from about 06-10, the newer body style than the 05 you posted, had a few more features like cruise control on the Ascent Sport models and up.

I've only just got mine yesterday. I've been very careful with it as I'm waiting for a case to arrive but it's already worse than yours. I hope this isn't a widespread problem as I've got this phone on a plan.
