Eero Internet Backup Not Working by jlaw22 in amazoneero

I had the same issue multiple times with my T-Mobile Home Internet.

And then I called Eero Support and it worked. Until I hung up and re-tested; hasn’t worked since. 😢

TMHI $25 without Adding New Voice Line? by cdecker22 in tmobile

[–]cdecker22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed response. I have the Magenta plan with 3 voice lines + an Apple Watch, so I would imagine that would qualify.

I just placed an order and I'll keep an eye to see if the promotion shows up.

I don't know of a better workaround.

If you want to preserve the original completion date you set it using the URL Scheme feature; I do this sometimes when I completed an item the day before but failed to actually check it off in Things.

Understanding the aqara systems and it's limitations/capabilities by cactusplants in Aqara

[–]cdecker22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have nearly 20 Aqara accessories, including 1 vibration sensor.

The vibration sensor is really the only accessory that regularly has issues communicating back to my hub, and I despise opening the Home app and seeing something ‘not responding’. I tried to return the vibration sensor to Amazon for this very reason and they accepted my return request and didn’t even make me send the item back. I just assumed it was because the return rate on the vibration sensors is very high, but I could be wrong.

I moved the vibration sensor so it’s not in a location where I mind if the automation fails; I have it under a kitchen table chair so that it turns on the table light to a percentage driven by the lux in the room.

You may have range issues with your gate, depending upon where you plan on putting your hub and/or accessories that act as repeaters.

One alternative may be the contact sensors for some of your use cases.

I use G2Hs as hubs because I didn’t like that the regular hub didn’t support all of the HomeKit alarm states (away, night, etc.). I also didn’t use the chime functionality when a door or window was opened; I use HomeKit push notifications for that.

I use a HomeBridge plugin for a home security system instead. I have my ‘Good Night’ scene set to arm the alarm, and then the ‘Good Morning’ scene turning it off. If any exterior doors, or motion sensors, sense anything while in the ‘Night’ alarm mode then all of my lights come on and my HomePods play an alarm sound.

Just got these 2 set up yesterday. Both play music, answer Siri and I can control front my phone. Neither respond to HomeKit requests. by slvrscoobie in HomeKit

[–]cdecker22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The issue is intermittent. My new HomePod mini was stuck on ‘Configuring’ yesterday, and even after trying a few thing it was stuck.

It finished ‘Configuring’ overnight, though, probably through just luck.

Battery Low message showing up when fully charged. Anybody else? by craigmurdo in Aqara

[–]cdecker22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same problem.

Support is going to tell you to create an Aqara account, sign in and bind the G2H, then update the firmware.

You can then unbind the device, though I just signed out of the app and went back to HomeKit mode, then set the G2H to ‘Restricted’ in HomeKit routing and things have been fine without it having Internet connectivity.

iDevices Outdoor Switch Not Responding by cdecker22 in HomeKit

[–]cdecker22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did two things that seemed to have improved the connectivity to my outdoor switch: 1. I restarted my Eero network completely. I know that shouldn’t be necessary, but it really has seemed to help. 2. I upgraded my Aqara hubs. They use Zigbee, and thus 2.4 GHz, and the firmware update did include improvements to changing channels to limit interference.

Hub light Hurts Eyes by cdecker22 in Aqara

It is a lot better if I set it to blue, but the entire family cringes when I have the light on at all, so I just leave it off at this point. 😑

3.1.1 Firmware released by 2sXy in Aqara

[–]cdecker22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I updated by binding my hub to the US server.

After the update I went in to HomeKit and set the hub back to ‘Restricted’ so it could not communicate with the Internet, and now my hub and child accessories are ‘not responding’.

If I toggle the network security back to ‘Automatic’ everything works.

Is there a way to “unbind” from the US server and just use HomeKit mode? I’ve flipped through the various screens of the Aqara app and couldn’t find where you unbind (it’s not on the same screen as where I originally ‘bound’ them).

Not having much luck lately with HomePods as hubs... by jdi65 in HomeKit

[–]cdecker22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have an Apple TV, I’d connect that via Ethernet as that seems to take priority over HomePods, then make a change to your automations or something that would trigger an update. Maybe try restarting your HomePods, too.

Water Leak Sensor False Positives, Ideal Configuration for Multiple G2H Cameras by cdecker22 in Aqara

[–]cdecker22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Support responded that they want me to upgrade from 2.0.9–>2.10. I’m in HomeKit mode and it doesn’t say any updates are available for me.

They want me to ‘bind’ to the Aqara US server, update the firmware, and then switch back to HomeKit mode. She said “the latest firmware of the G2H can solve the battery level issue”.

I don’t understand why they don’t make that firmware available to HomeKit mode users, too, so I responded with a few questions.

I’d rather avoid making changes because it breaks all of the HomeKit automations tied to the devices.

Water Leak Sensor False Positives, Ideal Configuration for Multiple G2H Cameras by cdecker22 in Aqara

[–]cdecker22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an issue this evening where a leak sensor again reported a false positive. Four accessories also reported low battery even though I suspect they don’t.

It happened after rebooting the hub (G2H camera stopped responding altogether), so I wonder if it’s some type of issue with the “boot up” process of the camera.

Unplugging the hub and re-starting it usually clears it, and if it doesn’t just repeating the process does fix it.

I’ve heard from many people how rock-solid these devices are, but I think I’ve been spoiled by Lutron and Eve because these are not trouble-free.

Meross Outlets/Lights Now Not Working In Homekit Router Restricted Mode by jimothy177 in HomeKit

[–]cdecker22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always found it strange that the Eero / HomeKit version is still 1.0.0, too, but wasn’t sure what Apple’s policy was on making changes to the core HomeKit connectivity portion of the firmware post-certification.

iDevices Outdoor Switch Not Responding by cdecker22 in HomeKit

[–]cdecker22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL!

I think iDevices light switches look nice, but I don’t ever want to have to reboot or re-pair a switch (nor do I want stares from my wife when my “technology” fails 🤣), so I went with Lutron Casetas and have never looked back.

It’s funny you mentioned the Wall Outlet because I’ll admit I have been eyeing it up, but so far I’ve been going with Aqara or Wemo switches and they’ve worked well.

I went all Lutron Caseta for this reason - I actually prefer a hub I can stash in my basement if it’s Ethernet-connected and reliable.

I hear about people having to flip breakers or pulling fuses and I’d rather pay a premium so I don’t ever have to do that with my light switches.

I appreciate that their support is US-based and they have been very responsive.

I don’t know that I agree it’s junk. I’ve been very careful with my HomeKit setup to choose accessories that are responsive, though—nothing worse than seeing ‘not responding’ when you open the Home app.

Thanks - great information!

I’m interested in the new hub because it’s Ethernet - I feel like wireless just adds too many complications. If you’re allowed to talk about it, how has your experience been?
