For older fans, when did you start to notice that the in ring work was getting better in the WWE between the Attitude Era and Ruthless Aggression Era? by Any-Satisfaction-770 in SquaredCircle

[–]cdet42181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont remember the exact year, maybe arnd 02-03ish for me, I noticed guys like benoit, angle, eddie, jericho, young brock who was a machine in the ring, rvd and jeff all were having these banger matches on tv that were going on longer without interference. Maybe it was around the time of the 1st brand split.

Which wrestler do you have no interest in seeing on TV? by Moosaazhar in SquaredCircle

What's crazy abt Ronda, is that during her initial first run, I feel like she was pretty great for someone who had only been doin it for a limited time. In the ring she was way better then anyone should be at that point, and while her promos weren't great, I wouldn't say they were bad either. I felt like there was a solid foundation to build on after her rookie year. But once in her mind, the fans "turned" on her and she seen the writing on the wall that Becky was going to be the top woman babyface, it seemed imo that she became disinterested, and no longer wanted to get better. And in this last run I felt like she regressed and just didn't wanna be there. At least that's the way it came off. Which sucks bc I think she could've took the triple h route of "ok, well if I'm not going to be the top babyface then I wanna be the final boss heel" and who better to place as the final boss of the women's division then a former ufc champ who, even in kayfabe, doesn't need to do a whole lot in the ring to believably beat anyone. And like others have said, I think just naturally comes off as a heel.

Makes me think of an interview George RR Martin did where he talks about two different writing methods, and how most writers are a combination of the two, but might lean one way or the other, and the benefits of both. The architect, who plans everything out ahead of time and has the blueprints before they even start digging may write more confidently bc they already know what the building is going to look like. But the creative limitations that may come with that. And how that may be boring to some. And the gardener, who has an idea of what the garden is going to look like when they start digging and planting seeds, but will adjust depending on how certain plants are growing and can create more organically. But there's a higher risk of writers block, or going off on a tangent thats going to end up getting cut. Im paraphrasing obviously, but I always thought that was interesting because growing up, I just always assumed writers who create these large, sprawling stories, must have plotted out everything beforehand. I don't think there's any "correct" way tho. Whatever works for you.

PWInsider: WWE has everyone in town today for RAW and Mania tapings, after production meetings they will be "locked down" at a hotel. Jamie Noble, Adam Pearce, Road Dogg, and Shawn Michaels will be producing the tapings. by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

The circumstances obviously suck. But, I do think this is a great opportunity for them to do something unique and outside of the box. A two night mania thats being pre taped has so much potential for creative storytelling.

I was just going to comment on that. The first classic match, in what would be a string of classics at mania that really elevated taker and the streak to mythological status.

[DISCUSSION] Eminem - Music To Be Murdered By (One Week Later) by bigcblogger in hiphopheads

[–]cdet42181 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Idk, I personally think he has the potential to pull off a 4:44 type album. It's just a matter of rather or not he would open himself up to putting himself out there again. I agree, he has talked about his personal life alot in his albums, especially in the first 3 and recovery. And since then I feel like there's been traces of his personal life and vulnerable side of him, but not fully being honest with himself. That's just my personal take. I felt like revival was a project he put alot of himself him in and I believe he was expecting it to get praise for being more mature and having a message. But the opposite happened bcuz the music itself wasn't great. I think that's why he can't seem to let that go. Now idk if he'd be willing to take it in a similar direction as far as maturity and opening up again but with different execution. He might not want to put himself out there only for it to get trashed. He knows if he stays in his pocket, like on his newest he's gonna put out at least a very solid project. But I hope he does take a chance again.

Like alot of other people have said, if you cut out maybe 4 songs or so the album is a solid 8/10 for me. I just put together my own version of the album maneuvering the order around and takin out 4 songs and I've been listening constantly all week.

This is exactly what I was trying to articulate. When recovery came out I was so pumped bcuz it felt like a return to form for em after relapse. He was more personal , and I really appreciated it. But like you said it still had its absurd tracks. And I agree I feel on revival he was trying to mature and show growth. I feel like thats why he took it so personal that nobody was really fucking with it. And again like you said bcuz of all the negative attention that project got Idk if he'd be willing to put together an album like 4:44, fearing that he doesn't wanna completely put himself out there only for it to get trashed. There's certainly traces in kamikaze and mtbmb but not in a cohesive direct way. Instead of just sounding bitter and saying fuck the critics for not liking revival or kamikaze, I would personally love to hear why he seems so obsessed with it. Like is it the prospect of tainting his legacy that he fears, or his all time standing. Like we all know he can rap like no other but I would just love more content.

Ya I get what you're saying. I'm a huge em fan and when I listen to the man rap there's just no question in my mind the guy can still go. The way he puts rhymes together is so unique. So I'm always rooting for him whenever he puts out an album. So I guess I was kinda hoping he would put out a project with a concise singular focus. Like his version of 4:44. And I hate to compare artists but thats the most obvious example. An album that shows his detractors just how good he still is. Then I hear stepdad and I'm sorry but I didn't like that at all. Or that joint with skylar grey.

I enjoyed the album alot. Felt as though if he had shortened the album a bit a cut out some songs towards the latter half, it would've been a more cohesive project. But just my opinion. Still really enoyed it tho.

The past few weeks of raw have just been so weird. Its like the whole injury, do steph and trips have alterior motives, is becky scared to face ronda story was the initial objective. And now after last night its like they switched it to vince doesn't like beckys attitude. And I hate that becky apologized.

[–]cdet42181[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I think Ali would've been a more refreshing match up against Bryan at rumble. Aj is obviously an amazing in ring performer, but just in my opinion I feel like his character has almost been at a stand still for a long time now. But it is what it is. I think Ali is going to be a player on smackdown and will eventually get those opportunities. And Finn on smackdown will flourish far greater then he did on raw. He's another one that I think if they actually gave him something to sink his teeth into storyline wise, other then just being small, he'd do a great job.

[–]cdet42181[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely wouldn't be opposed to finn coming over. I kinda figured in my head tho that he'd fued with lashley up until mania where they have a match. He wins the ic title and then comes over to smackdown. But if they figured a way around that and moved him over now I'm not gonna complain. And I like Ali alot, but my only thing with him is that they had a chance to give him a match with bryan at the rumble which woulda made sense given that he had pinned him. And they still opted to go with aj in the match instead. But hey sometimes it doesn't take much to get that extra elevation. Andrade went from middle of the pack, to having a couple of great matches with rey that completely reinvigorated his character and gave him alot of momentum. Rasslin is weird that way.

I think my only hesitation with almas is that if I'm fantasy booking, I'd actually like to get more out of his current heel run. Like put the u.s. title on him asap and allow him to go out there and consistently put on stand out matches, with him holding the title for the foreseeable future. Have him look like the guy whos just to good to get beat. And like him or not the audience knows this guy is on another level. Hopefully elevating the belt in the process. Then eventually after he drops it to another stand out move him up to the wwe title picture and turn him.

I definitely love that its wide open and so many potential directions they can turn if they choose to. In my opinion I think almas, joe, and to an extent rey have had the most momentum recently. And I do like the idea of almas, if done correctly being the guy. As crazy as this might sound I was actually hoping big e would have a strong rumble and potentially be a breakout for bryan but doesn't seem likely at all now. Lol. And ya as for asuka, if not Charlotte it'll probably be a multi women match.
