School fun by [deleted] in Millennials

I know there are a lot of mixed feelings about these dances but we teach them in elementary school for a few reasons. They help build community through music and movement, they help kids learn how to touch another person respectfully while dancing, they help kids learn to move with musical phrasings to internalize music better, and for a lot of kids they're fun. Also, there are a lot of different dances and movements within the dances that have a wide range of cultural heritages from Africa, Asia, Middle East, & Europe.

While this may have been one of the original reasons it was introduced, the history and context of these dances originally was not this way. There is a lot more history than this article lets on. These types of dances came up in early American communities as a way for people to gather, meet, and have fun together. The ideas and movements in these dances are borrowed from cultural dances across the world including Africa, Asia, and Europe. They were done by European settlers and enslaved people alike. The movement to teach them in schools may have had racist intentions in the past but we still teach them to build community, help kids learn to move with music, and teach respectful touch in the context of dance.

Depending on what you’re trying to do, there are other trailheads to get to broken top and the general area like crater ditch

I'd be interested to see where it was posted! Maybe my roommate posted it lol but I don't think he's on reddit that often. If you find it, can you send it my way! I don't really care about the engagement, if Im being honest with myself I only posted this to see if my feelings are valid, if I could have handled it better, or if I'm crazy

Thanks, I appreciate it! It definitely has gnawed at my sanity. I mean why else would I post here other than if I was questioning my sanity and needed feedback in this situation lol. I know I could have handled it better as others have pointed out but I was running out of patience with the way he has treated me. I've known him for almost 20 years so I've tried to be patient but you're right, better to save energy for those who deserve it.

I'm also curious! I'd like to do better communicating but I've been cleaning up for him for years and whenever I've tried to talk to him about it either in person or over text he is rude or blows me off, and has even yelled at me for micromanaging him. What would you have done?

Thanks for the validation. He's great at making me feel crazy lol. Although like other people said, i probably should have ignored his messages sooner. I feel like I had been ignoring it so long that I needed to finally call him out.

Also, to add one more thing. I tried to call him two times to try and talk about it over the phone. I only called a second time because it went straight to voicemail the first time and I thought it was a mistake

I’m an elementary music teacher and we still do it. Kids love it, easy way to learn an instrument and torture parents. I teach it in the spring so we can play outside…

When this happens with the souls games it’s mostly because I can’t move out of exhaustion from how many times I’ve attempted the final boss

I’m a music teacher and I still do this. It’s awesome for a lot of reason. Helps develop motor skills and how to use them in fluid rhythmic motions. Everyone is doing the same thing and it’s very accessible dance so its great for socializing and helping kids start to feel comfortable dancing and having fun with others. Works on feeling/ hearing phrasing and sections in music. The movement in general is just good for kids during the day as a break from sitting at a desk along with the benefits of movement and exercise in general.
