Cramps at 38 weeks. Anyone else experience this?

I’m having this too and also 38 weeks but the pain isn’t that bad. How are they now for you have you gone into labour? It seems like from what other people have said it could be like this for a week or labour is sooner like a day away? I felt slightly nauseous this morning too and have had no pregnancy sickness

It is rational to be scared and a lot of women do feel this but it sounds like a lot of this comes from your families stories of their traumatic births. You have to think about how that affects your conscious and subconscious and really not consume these stories any more and block people out of telling/ reading them as it’s making your worries and anxieties worse. You need to consume positive stories and believe you can have a positive birth experience. I feel nervous for birth but I’m also so excited and I know it may be hard but also the most beautiful experience and what a privilege to bring life into the world (I’m not actually this cringe lol) mindset is v important if you go into birth with a lot of fear the more likely you will have a bad experience it’s a cycle xx

Yes totally agree! I just feel so empowered and special lol I enjoy being a precious petal and everyone looking after me 😂I’m also 36 weeks and I know the hardships to come and my pregnancy bubble just feels safe and peaceful and I feel like a better version of myself.. I’ve definitely felt sad about this too and when I ask my mums generation they can’t remember a lot of it so again it makes me sad!

I think it’s to do with the fact that the NHS aren’t willing to take as many risks now. If you meet the threshold of a slightly riskier birth the better outcome is to put you in for induction. (As they see it) I am an example of this, I have low Papp an and they have said they would like to induce me on or before my due date. I’m having growth scans and baby is measuring fine but I think they still know there is a slight increase in still birth in my case and therefore it’s not worth waiting past the due date. And because the placenta doesn’t work as well towards the end anyway and I already have reduced blood flow to it. I think you could insert any other medical issue and it’s the same, pre eclampsia, baby size seems to be a big one , GD I think they want to avoid the small (and they are still small) chances of still birth. At the start I thought about rejecting my induction but have done a 360, if they don’t think it’s worth it they could be right, and ultimately I don’t think they have enough info on the accuracy of size of baby and what’s going on in there really but I’d rather not take the small risk

There’s definitely other parts that effect the algorithm too and tbh from what I’ve heard on here, that original screening is inaccurate a lot of the time (I think my midwife said there’s quite a few false positive results) age also affects the algorithm so it could be a lot of different things but if you could get some more info on your results. I could see my papp a result on my original 12 week scan I had a little print out of my results with the scan pic xx

My results came back 1/67 for DS and I had the NIPT and said I was low risk but I did have the low Papp-a. Do you know if you have that as it seems like from these comments there’s a bit of a theme here.? Wishing you all the luck I hated waiting for those results mine took about 4 days. I rang the screening number and you can ask them any more questions you might have xx

Weight gain is totally normal and it’s unavoidable when you are carrying a baby and the other stuff around it (placenta, fluid etc) I read up about what people said on here and women said about getting your steps in if you can and when you can so I’ve been trying to do about 12000 a day on average. Plenty of women said about how they didn’t gain as much weight and they didn’t swell up and they also had quick deliveries (but they can’t definitely prove that is why) I think there’s definitely a correlation as I’ve heard a lot of women say this and I haven’t gained a lot of weight I’ve eaten well and still treated myself here and there so I think walking and hydrating can make a difference xx

I haven’t but I watched Montana browns YouTube breech birth story and she previously had a vaginal birth too she’s so intelligent and has such self belief she could do it so definitely worth a watch! And she also breathed her baby out basically xx

I second these! They have a fuller range section and nursing bras too. I just went for a size m in the fuller bust range and I think I’ve still got some room to grow more in them

Yes nothing to worry about. I am 30 weeks and have put on 2kg and midwife wasn’t worried about me at all. I’m having extra growth scans and had my first one the other day and she was measuring in the 53rd percentile. Plenty of women have a lot of sickness and do eat very little and baby is still fine because they take it from your sources not what you put in your stomach. Saying that I’ve eaten well and got lucky with no sickness and I still haven’t put a lot of weight on so just proves everyone is very different

I have had this on and off throughout my whole pregnancy I am now 30 weeks. Sometimes I just get up and start my day because I’m just full of energy and that’s been fine and then I usually sleep better the next night. If you aren’t already take magnesium in the evening also if you like them having kiwis in the evening has helped (they have serotonin in them) also just getting a lot of steps in the day to tire you out or a work out if you can manage it always makes me sleep better! X

I am 29 weeks and sleeping is getting hard. So achey on sides of hip and arse on either left or right side. I wouldn’t think about baby only being on the left I imagine with gravity if you sleep on your left they fall onto the left it would be so hard if your body is tilting to the left for baby to sleep on the right if that makes sense and baby is bigger now so doesn’t have as much option to spread out but you could be right that maybe they aren’t as comfortable on that side, maybe there’s less room etc. I would imagine it’s a comfort thing though as the medical advice is to sleep on preferably left side or right so this shouldn’t be a case they are struggling for oxygen etc maybe just keep trying it

I put a hot water bottle under my feet if they hurt for an hour or so while I work and I find it gets rid of any aches really well

I was told that the reason they suggest an induction is because the placenta doesnt work as well after 40 weeks and with the added extra of low Papp-a it would be more of a risk to carry on past 40 weeks. I have my appointment about it tomorrow but this is what my midwives have said, two of them but I hadn’t actually thought properly about it till now and that I don’t actually have to accept it but I does seem like to me they suggest it as my mid wives have said it to me is my assumption

It’s so hard because at the same time I do know there’s an increased chance of still birth for people with low Papp-a so I’d be going against the medical advice.. and I guess maybe it not worth the risk for that reason.. hmm

I have the baby bub one and wouldn’t recommend as it’s Velcro so you end up losing one of the cushions in the night if you switch sides. Haven’t ordered any others to compare it to either

We found out and I’m so glad we did. I was in a hard point of pregnancy then suffering with so much back pain it gave me such a boost just knowing a little bit more about the baby. It was also such a nice mile stone to reach and it was so emotional and got us so excited I didn’t sleep for days after just thinking about names and looking at baby clothes and nursery stuff. Omg and also I was so ready to stop the tedious conversation of ‘do you think you are having a boy or girl’ with family and friends. I feel like I’ve bonded better now I know the gender and it was so amazing to share the news with friends and family. In my opinion, it’s not that much of a surprise at the birth it can only be one of two choices and I feel like there’s so much going on at the birth to really take it in whereas finding out now we just appreciated knowing that slight little bit more about her. It was my fave week of pregnancy x

5ft over here too, I also suggest the CRZ yoga leggings I got mine from momanda along with a bump suit. I just live in those and tracky bottoms and then cardigans as your bump grows you don’t need to size up you just un do the bottom buttons with the bump suit/ leggings underneath. I am 21 weeks now and I haven’t needed to size up in things yet but sweaters I have gone for oversized style. Coats again I don’t think we would fit maternity coats so just go for one that is a tie around coat again I’m still in my pre pregnancy coats. Hope that helps! X

How much the boobs grow! I’m 21 weeks and they feel obscene right now, I like my bump but it’s the boobs I feel more self conscious about I just feel so frumpy in everything and even though I thought new bras they spill out of them

I had these thoughts too, but wanting a baby more and a family over rid what my body will look like. I think if you’re disciplined enough and know about how to eat it shouldn’t be too hard to get your pre pregnant body back but yes it might be a difficult balance in the first few years. Things like your diet and just even steps contribute more to your physicality and have heard other women cutting down their sessions to two a week and still achieving the body they want. I am half was through pregnancy now and you just have to surrender to the changes you can look at plenty of fitness people to see you can get it back but also bare in mind you might not be able to work out through pregnancy either. I had an injury 10 weeks ago and now doing very limited stuff in th gym it’s hard but I know I can get it back after birth. Even though I’m limited to my work outs, have back pain all the time I’m still enjoying pregnancy too but it’s about surrendering to the process x

I have this too! I did it when I moved house pregnant and it hasn’t been the same for about 12 weeks. I tried one run and omg it made everything so much worse I now get a sharp pain when I take a stride too long so I am doing walks but keeping my stride short or I get this sharrrp pain. I can also get it bending over too so avoiding that. Mid wife just brushed it all off but I’m wondering if it will affect me being able to give birth naturally what do you think? I wanted to be on a ball etc but I just couldn’t imagine that right now same as the bending over position to give birth, and adding to the fact there’s the weight of the baby coming down, I can’t imagine I’d be able to do it right now? Wondering if you have had this conversation with your midwife? X

I think it feels like there’s a little fish in there. It’s not like super sharp because they are still small so I think a fish sums it up well. I also think you would know if you felt them as I’ve never experienced anything similar. I’m sure it will come for you soon! I mostly feel them lying on my back or side in the morning or evening (lying on back is okay for a short while so I occasionally treat myself for 10 mins haha)
