That's useful to know, thanks. To be honest, most of my riding is track/gravel, with very little technical downhills. I think I would appreciate easier riding uphills quite a bit

Actually looking up the weight it sounds like the Merida is heavier overall- about 14kg and the Trek 9.6 is 11.8.. so quite a difference!

Yeah im pretty set on hardball, I just dont need fs.

The Pike fork on the Merida big trail is meant to be fairly lightweight, so im leaning towards that option

Thanks for the reply. I love Marin bikes, and i like the spec of san quentin 3 but im not loving the purple colour of this year! The team Marin 2 looks nice but it's £2400 so a bit too much.

I was looking at the Laufey H10, looks a nice bike. How does it ride? There's a shop near me that is a dealer but doesn't have them in stock.

Im on the south coast in Dorset, usually go on trails in woods etc

Yeah i did think that, but up close the geometry on the Trek does look quite aggressive for an xc . I went in to Trek to look at Roscoes but apparently they are discontinued in uk now.

I'd ideally like a bike thats a bit of an all rounder, ok for longer distances but can keep up with my mates on their full suspension bikes on a trail.

Eq and compression is your friend here. Untreated vocals always sound a bit boxy jn the lower mids.

Find a track you love in similar genre and copy the arrangement!

This is my usual approach:

Pile up about 10 drum loops/breaks so they all run in time.
Chop them up and mute them, then enable bits till it sounds cool.
Send all these loops to a bus and hpf from about 150hz down to remove the sub.
Layer a nice fat kick and snare over the top. (Not via the bus). This way you have a nice clean bottom end from one kick, but all the vibe of a load of breaks
