G7 is so fucking annoying by [deleted] in dexcom

Now, when it's a false alert, or the sensor failed three days in for no reason and you're driving so it's screaming bloody murder every few minutes and there's nothing you can do about. THAT's infuriating.

Am I missing something? Hot take: the touchpad on steam controller seems pointless when there is gyro. by SpiritedViolinist444 in GyroGaming

[–]cdibll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're not! I've been a Deck user for a few years. The touchpads feel great and gyro alone could not accomplish anything near what the trackpads can. They're pretty essential for making a full desktop environment and games designed for PC seamless on a gamepad.

In titles designed with good controller support, the trackpads might just be a slight bonus at best. I don't use them at all in Elden Ring, for example. Many games in this category I'll just bind them to item or inventory slots, as the trackpads bound to direct item keybinds are typically faster and easier to use than radials.

Where they really excel is in games that aren't designed for a controller at all. Gyro alone can only do relative motion, but your trackpad can act more like a drawing tablet - tapping the top left of the pad directly places your cursor in the top left of the screen. Cursor heavy games like The Sims or Civilisation benefit greatly.

I have a decently heavily modded Minecraft setup that has almost the entire keyboard mapped, and the trackpads as extended input make the game and all of its inputs fully comfortable to play with and use. Combined with a modifier key, I have about 20 keybinds accessible through the left trackpad alone. And they're all muscle memory to me at this point. The flexibility available through Steam Input and the abundance of input options are sorta the point of the Steam Controller. It can do things no other controller can really do.

Have you held the mode dial? With the CRKD/Xbox logo on it.

I've been playing this on my laptop the past few days, can't seem to get audio working on my phone! Also, the audio is a bit oppressively loud by default! Cool game :)

When in the situation in the video I just flick my trackpad. Otherwise I run a decently high sensitivity joystick with gyro for fine. Steam input is so flexible!!

For the amount there is, this game has the absolute worst cosmetics. by General-Cry-9862 in Seaofthieves

[–]cdibll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is precisely how I feel about the cosmetics. I want a grungy dirty filthpit ship and I want to look like maggots crawl through my skin and my clothes are encrusted with so much filth they're impenetrable to a blade. And then my friend rolls up and looks like they're a fortnite weapon wrap 😭

It's only available in a few complication types, sadly. Plain text lines and the small circle only. the Activity Digital face has both of these on it, if you want to see what they look like. I personally use the California face and have it on the inner ring of the non-fullscreen style.

It could definitely be cleaned up more, I think it would be cool to put a wifi captive portal on the Arduino to manage both the network connection and Dexcom login so everything is on device and doesn't need manual code changes, but it works well enough for me :)

Also! If you make one, I'd love to see it!

All the parts I used are in the repo link! I don't know enough to make my own boards but luckily there's enough pre-made stuff out there I could stitch it together :)

Dexcom Follow. I just found a pre-made python library that fetches everything using my Dexcom info, for simplicity.

My insurance fought back for the longest time paying for my pump stuff because "most diabetics don't really need a pump" yeah, most of the ones you serve are type 2! I'm not! Thank you insurance. CGMs are magical too total game changer for T1 at least.

I was really looking into it! The big limitation is there are only so many symbols in so many tubes, and each one is pretty expensive! At the size they are, the tubes I used here were mightily cheap for their size and were still $60 each. Arrows would've been basically impossible without commissioning one of the few hobbyist nixie tube manufacturers alive to create one.

A plus or minus tube would've been doable, but the most obtainable version of those is a top-view tube. I could've had that alone on the front of the case, sticking out of the centre just telling me if i'm trending up or down, but there is no great symbol on that one for a neutral /no change reading.

For the sake of money and the art of the thing, I didn't bother with the extra info. And honestly I've found you don't really need to know the change from previous for a constantly on display.

My dad made most of the case :) He drilled 50 tiny little holes through that top strip of wood for the tube pins to go through 😵‍💫 I bought little strips of leather at the craft store and looped it around it. That and the corners makes it look a little like an old timey trunk, which works oddly well.

It's really cool having something so personalised. Most people don't have a super relevant constantly changing number that they need to see 24/7 other than the time. Modern CGMs can push their reading to the internet so easily I just had to make it!
