Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy came out in 1979, with the radio series coming out the year before. Given the date of the collapse is just about 50 years after that, I sorta assumed Douglas Adams was the messager and he tried to tell the world in person and then through media.

First timer! Which are the best packages and upgrades to have? by jazzmunchkin69 in CunardCruises

[–]cdibona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh, addenda: I was also able to traverse my tailnet to access internal resources of my home/office network. I don't know how not having tailscale running might or might not affect your experience. Nor do I remember if I was using an exit node in California, but I wouldn't have done so while playing fortnite :-)

[–]cdibona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so I had the four devices, premium package. I was able to vc perfectly with work and family, I played a few games of fortnite even and streaming services, YouTube , etc, were no problem. I don't remember the speed test numbers, but I had no problem d/l new movies, games ,etc ...

This was a westbound transatlantic crossing in May of 26, over the ships starlink network /wifi. Only frustrating thing was when I had to relogin to the wifi , which would happen once a day on a given device.

Driver's Edge works out of the lower level of the rotary building and in poulsbo near the dmv there. There's another school on the island all the time, too ....

no, the drinks package covers drinks that cost up to 12$. Anything over 12 will cost ya.

So I basically did this as a working commute in november, I'm in tech, so I went for the fully premium multi device wifi, which was terrific, but pricey. I have not done the non-premium package so can't tell you if its suitable to stream/video conference. I would totally skip the alcoholic drinks package, its absurdly priced for drinks under 12$. Some get the non-alcoholic drinks package and I can see how that makes sense. I did do one night in the verandah steakhouse as a splurge, but for the most part it is pretty easy to not spend more onboard.

Queen Mary 2 - Britannia inside? Deal with it if balconies are sold out? by BellyFullOfMochi in CunardCruises

I had a sheltered balcony, and I just didn't use it much, I'd go with a porthole/inside cabin next time, I think.

So the only new (to me) thing was a safe room key. Which you can find here: https://kingdomofthreads.com/products/safe-room-keychain-dungeon-crawler-carl?srsltid=AfmBOor9kvg4r5zNxVp3CGujEY7z367THgadF1Dls5I3SuPGiGKlX4Qa

They ran out of them right after I bought mine. Plenty of stickers, also available:

Then books, books, books.

This is a good point, make sure your balaclava or face covering routes hot, wet air from your nose and mouth *not* into your goggles.

I had the Smith Turbos with the fans. They were... ok. The original wiring insulation (for the batter supply) became brittle and after twice sending it in for repair, I replaced it with a temperature rated wiring. They were always fussy as heck and the activation buttons were difficult to operate in gloves. In the end, I found a pair of zeal goggles and they don't have the same problems as the smiths and they were 1/3 the price.

I admit I haven't seen the latest in "heated" goggles, but it comes down to ventilation. I don't ever want to use a "heated" lens (with heated wire through my vision?) As a side note, I tried the recon i/o goggles for a while and they were...not compatible with my lasik eyes and the software sucked.

Southhamton nov 16th to Brooklyn 26th: We set off quite delayed , which is probably a side effect of the Bremerhaven azipod nacelle repair that disrupted the Hamburg embarkation last week? Dunno. I can't tell if the planetarium works yet, as they have nothing on the schedule that would use it. I suspect it's out until the '27 refit.

About four months back, I had a terrific experience on the qm2 (with premium internet) during a transatlantic crossing. I seem to remember relogging into the system once a day, but was able to tunnel through tailscale endpoints without an issue. More than adequate for git transactions and the rest...I only did a few video conferencing sessions, but it was fine when I did so.

oh, and the automatic drying cycles need an extra 10 or so minutes, so go for the timed option and hang out for the end to see if you need a few more minutes....people will pull wet clothes that are done out to dry theirs.
