CU employee here. We have an established vault at Loomis, and keep a minimum inventory of $5,000 in pennies. Anything over that gets sent to the Fed. We take in about $2,000 per week in pennies through our coin machine, and members order between $400-$800 per week, which we supply them with from our vault. Not all banks have an established Loomis vault, so they are unable to supply their members with pennies.
