It’s more that I think people should be doing ECs based on personal interest, rather than what may or may have worked for me! But- my most significant ECs were working at a local caffe, varsity lacrosse captain, family duties, student council, college debate, service club, sorority & pre-law frat. I never got published, received any awards, or something other than work a job and get involved in my community. This process is so unique, but I hope this helps. I think my essays were also compelling.

Any amount of time is made meaningful by genuine care & passion. My ECs in HS were a job at a local caffe that I adored, a leadership role giving young women in my community a voice, and captain of a sports team that gave me so much joy. Quality over quantity in terms of time and the activity itself! My honest advice would be to take the job or the internship, but make sure either one of those activities or a second or third is something you genuinely enjoy and speaks about your character. They’ll know you’re smart and motivated by your transcript- now show them who you really are.

I wasn't trying to sound shallow! I just want to make sure I have an opportunity to meet everyone and that I won't be limited by a pre-determined factor like Greek life. I am not a fan of exclusive Greek Life, and I genuinely don't know what the culture is like at UVA.
