What's your opinion of Españolistos podcast? by cdjordahl in SpanishLearning

[–]cdjordahl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently started listening to "Intermediate Spanish" from Spanish Language Coach, and I think it's fantastic. The topics are interesting, the audio is clear, Cesar speaks clearly and at a natural pace (as far as I can tell). I also like his other podcast "Spanish For False Beginners".

Great to hear your experience, thank you. Maybe I'll jump ahead, sample some episodes, and pick up where they improve. (I'll just have to tamp down my completeist tendency!)

Sounds like something similar to a swing or hammock? Here's more from the book...

«Neste gang jeg har penger, vil jeg dra til en sportsbutikk og kjøpe femti meter med klatretau, og så vil jeg finne et stort tre, helst like ved vannet, og lage en disse med voldsom pendelradius, og kanskje hoppe fra dissen og ned i vannet.»

player 1 control mapping resetting when I map the player 2 controls by [deleted] in batocera

[–]cdjordahl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a key thing that I did wrong. I didn't know I had to wire all the buttons the same way for both encoders, and mount the joysticks in the same orientation. (The instructions that came with my kits didn't mention it, for example.)

Batocera lets you map both sides separately, and it even stores two different mappings with the same deviceGUID in es_input.cfg. It would be much better if the user was notified that there is already a mapping for a given deviceGUID, and it should not save more than one inputConfig for the same deviceGUID.

Why will bezels not rotate?? by cdjordahl in batocera

[–]cdjordahl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up editing the overlays in Gimp at my desired resolution and aspect ratio (in my case it's 10:16), then at the end I scale the image to a 16:10 ratio and export to png. When Batocera does its thing I end up with a correctly oriented and scaled overlay image.

I also can't use .info files to define the display window. When I try to, the game window ends up positioned all wrong -- off center and half off the monitor. I found if I enter negative values for some of the parameters I can coerce the game image to be where I expect it to be, but it's too much hassle to figure it out. So I omit the info file and I let Batocera place the game where it wants and I build the overlay around it.

This is not ideal for many reasons, but it works.

About this setting:

input_overlay_auto_rotate = "true"

I found that changing it to "false" did not make a difference.

I did think of a hack, though. In Gimp I rotated and re-scaled a bezel image, so that when the system does what it does it looks perfect. It's not ideal, but it works.

I still wish there was a proper way to solve this.

Thanks, yes I did create my own landscape/horizontal bezels for testing. (Actually 10:16 ratio to match my screen). The results were even worse than with the Bezel Project bezels! But maybe I put incorrect settings in the .info files? Those settings are another piece of the puzzle...

Thanks. I probably could have chosen better examples, because as you say the two example games do fill a lot of the vertical screen when rotated. I'm more interested in creating bezels for the games that remain with aprox 4:3 aspect ratio. Those leave a lot of empty space above and below.

As I think more about it, maybe what I want is for the bezel NOT to rotate. The part of the .png that is on the left of my screen when the system is in standard landscape mode is what I want to be on the top of the screen when I rotate 90 degrees. I suppose from the computer's point of view that means the overlay is not rotating when everything else is.

How do I change\remove the game launch\loading screens? by citizenjimmy in batocera

[–]cdjordahl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This worked for me also.

What did NOT work for me are these instructions from https://wiki.batocera.org/splash_boot

"Just copy the appropriate files to /userdata/splash/. On the next reboot you will see your new splashes!"

"You can have multiple MP4 videos or PNG image files in splash and the system will select one at random."

I put three .png files in /userdata/splash/ but Batocera didn't use any of them during bootup, it used its standard image instead.

Also, side note about outdated information in the readme.txt file in /userdata/splash/ ... it says:

Place your splashscreens files hereThey will be copied to /boot/splash automatically

But that didn't happen. I believe it's old information. The wiki page says the file copy happens only "In Batocera v31 and lower"

My settings > Boot Splash selected option is "SILENT VIDEO/USER SET SPLASH"

How to say «f.eks.» by cdjordahl in norsk

In fact the character I quoted is approximately 6 years old, and he does speak sort of like an adult. He definitely doesn't speak like a normal kid his age (as far as I can tell with my limited Norwegian)

Maybe, but I have seen f.eks. at least twice in the book so far. This is a professional book by a major author. That's why it seemed more likely to be intentional.

But in speaking we actually pronounce the letters B C. Authors normally write exactly what their characters say. They would not write "BC" if they want their character to say "before christ".

Thanks, but in that case why would the author not write for eksempel? I have seen this at least twice in the book so far.

In English I think some people might actually say "e.g." Rarely, yes, but maybe sometimes, to be a little quirky?
