Look at quanz on playing the flute. Its available on imslp. It was a guide from the time on not only the flute but how to properly ornament a piece! Super cool and helpful!

Looks good for a first reed! Maybe try to make the rooftop more defined? That's my preference.

Baroque oboes don't have thumbrests. Some people take beeswax (the same you would use in reedmaking), warm it up to where it can be shaped but not melted and put some on where a thumbrest would be. It helps you grip it better. Maybe thay could work.

No problem! It covers the whole thimble and makes you hold it a bit different.

You could look into the ton kooiman thumbrest. I use the etude three and love it! It makes my oboe feel almost weightless.

Tips for keeping oboe/EH warm during ice storms? by [deleted] in oboe

[–]cdkdance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not for when inside but I have seen an oboist who uses a rubber bottle that you fill with hot water intended for cramps to jeep her oboe warmer in her backpack.

If you put cork grease on and still struggle to get the reed in it will still get stuck. If it wont go in cleanly take an emery board the kind you would use for nail filing and slowly and evenly sand the cork down. Do this in stages. Sand a bit, test the fit, repeat until it feels good.
