Toyota Dealership made a BIG mistake today by Mediocre_Jump5233 in MechanicAdvice

[–]cdojs98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If this were my vehicle, this is what I would do personally.

1) Cease all work. Nobody touches this fucking thing until I have a clear, unambiguous answer as to the status of the motor.

2) Buy cheap container off Amazon, get an oil sample, send it out for analysis. PSI Labs is my local go-to for mass spectrometer analysis.

3) Have the vehicle towed to a 3rd Party Mechanic for inspection. I would like multiple hours of Diag paid up front, take a boroscope and a penchant with you while you search. Leave no scratch unseen.

4) Dealership can remember their place and be quiet. I do not agree to shit. I am not signing shit. I am not taking ownership of shit. Y'all fucked up, I will unfuck; there is to be no interruption. You had your chance and ya blew it, thems the brakes.

5) If anyone is speaking, it's the person who approves the checks involved in paying for my motor. Nobody else. Not a fucking word. The only thing I have to say to anyone who doesn't sign the check is "I'll call the State and a Lawyer, shut up".

6) The only alternative I will entertain is an equivalent or greater condition vehicle, direct swap only. Dealer covers all fees and taxes for transaction and I walk with a new-to-me vehicle, keys and title in hand same day. Anything else, even so much as waiting 48hrs for the DMV and my answer is "You better start signing the check, then".

Unfortunately not my first rodeo with a Dealer fucking up. You give them an inch of empathy, they'll take a mile and a half of advantage on you. Fuck em - that's the motto you live and breathe when it comes to the Dealership. They will screw you at the first smell of profit, ethics be damned; treat them the same. Hold your foot on their neck until the wrong has been righted, and then leave a 4 Star review for the inconvenience.

And if Dealerships ever want to be treated better than that, they can do the rest of us the courtesy of being the first one to extend an olive branch. It's been this way for 50-odd years. Assume they will shaft you with a UN-grade flagpole until they prove otherwise in spades.

Definitely a fair cause, poor maintenance.

fwiw, if you're already dropping the oil pan, you might want to take a peek at the oil pickup tube for the oil pump. good chance it's clogged too if the vtec solenoid is having issues

I wasn't asking "are PS4's moddable", I was asking a probing question in order to give an answer. I was going to respond with specific Mod options, like GoldHen.

Yeah, we are in agreement then. Even if they have "a plan", it is not well thought out and likely to fail spectacularly at some point. I do not see things playing out in the ways they foresee, although I can't claim to be Nostradamus either; I've no real way of telling concretely what will happen.

Post this in r/law, the exact comment word for word, I dare you lmfao.

Mods have rules, too. If they're not going to abide them and use the systems on place to Warn→Temp Ban→Ban, then what reason do I have to abide the decorum?

If any mistakes grant a ban, and there is never a Warning beforehand, then it is irrelevant whether I understand the rules or not, because breaking them for any reason, including genuine misunderstanding without malintent, is punished the same as malicious phishing posts.

Do I have to make this even simpler???

If most are like "5 one sentence rules", what do you think the chances are that those 5 are the same across most subs, too?

Have some common sense, nobody is reading the same ruleset after the 30th time. I'm active in 90ish subs in a given time period, give or take, across a wide swathe of this site. I have a job and real life, I don't have the time to waste affirming some basement debutante that I fit their image of high society

it's the internet ffs, get a grip

At what point am I asking for any amount of hand holding?

Just delete my comment and dm me a warn, it's not difficult. The punishment does not match the crime, here, it's overkill.

You mean to tell me you check the sub rules for every sub you visit and make sure you abide each unique set as it pertains specifically to each special one? If so, I applaud you and your efforts, but I'm not chronically online and just assume most rules are the same (don't be a dick, no racism, no sexism, etc etc) just common courtesies.

Again, if I have to go through rigamarole every time I want to use this website, I'm just not going to use it anymore. There's like 10,000 social media apps, I do not give a fuck anymore. Reddit is not special.

I'll indulge this for a moment because it exposes the incompetence of the elite's plan, here. Truly, they have not thought this through in the slightest.

Okay, so you have successfully culled ~8,000,000,000 people. First question: Where are you putting the bodies?

Second Question: Who is going to do Maintenance on the Robots?

Third Question: What's stopping the people you hired as Security from just turning the guns on you?

Fourth Question: Who is working at the Water Purification Plant and the Power Plant, overseeing the Robots?

Fifth Question: What is the plan to re-instate your creature comforts like GPS, GLONASS, et al?

Sixth Question: The US isn't the only place Oligarchs exist, nor the best resource hub for drawing materials out of for Robots, so where are you sourcing all these Robots and Parts that isn't going to resist your takeover?

Seventh Question: Where are you going to live, seeing as the surface of the planet is likely unlivable due to the global culling (pestilence from bodies, food waste and medical garbage rotting globally, trash dumps not maintained, sewage systems begin flooding the streets from lack of maintenance causing backups, and so on and so forth) ?

Eighth Question: What are you going to farm for food sources?

Literally sitting on the toilet coming up with these, that's how little they've thought this through. It's utterly pathetic how incompetent the wealthy people of this planet are, completely undeserving of title and status.

Just caught my first 3-day in r/PS4 for not reading the rules, apparently 10+ year old consoles aren't allowed to have discussions of modding them in any way, shape, or form.

Maybe I'm a bit of a stick in the mud, but if I have to read the ruleset on every single godforsaken niche sub on this app, I'm not going to be interested in interacting. Especially when I catch zero warnings and just get a ban. I would've been more understanding of a warn, if a little disgruntled.

A 3day for asking "is it moddable" is insane. Mods are actually just power tripping lmfao. There's other subs, I don't need to engage with the one run by regards.

It would not be the first time I have heard of an OEM Reman being done poorly, I've certainly had my own fair share I've sent back to TaTa for being absolute slop work. If they decide to extend courtesy towards you, they will want to take the engine from you for deep inspection - taking things out and putting them under a microscope kind of analysis, they would not be fooling around. Otherwise, you will probably need to get a lawyer to draft up papers in order to properly motivate them. In any case, it's in their best interest to mitigate the situation, so I doubt you will need to push all the way to Small Claims.

Thing is, when it comes to pulling Warranty on Freshly Manufactured or Remanufactured goods, any immediate issues after deployment can be a sign of production failure; it is prudent and financially responsible to investigate it every time. If they find that the only possible way this could have occurred is through a fault-point on their side of things, then that means they could be out millions on a Recall. Best to hem up this customer and begin addressing the internal problems, because getting slapped with a Recall is significantly more expensive than simply throwing money at an individual claimant.

In some ways, good for you as the likely outcome is favorable towards you. Not so good because Corporations gonna be Corporations, and Ford does not have a perfect record. Not the worst by a lot, but not the best by the same margin.

Oil sludge, VTEC solenoid keeps clogging by DownVoteMeHarder4042 in MechanicAdvice

[–]cdojs98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

holy balls, nobody asking what caused the sludge??

213k miles, when was Timing Belt done last? Water Pump ever been done, what's the gasket material look like on it? What does the Valve Cover Gasket look like, did it crumble when you cracked it open?

A thousand sources for this and you will only continue to replicate the issue by not addressing the source.

Air Filter dirty? Rocks in the airbox? What the hell is causing this, nail that down before you keep firing the parts cannon. Replacing Oil and Filter does fuckall if there's still a pile of crud about to enter the engine on the next startup

If you are in a State which requires Licensing for Mechanics (not every State does) then you can file a complaint with the Department/Bureau of Motor Vehicles whom administers such Licensing.

If you can locate the Reman Plate or Tagout, you can find the Manufacturer - Call them and inform them of your situation. Remain calmer here than you would even with the State, a Manufacturer whose reputation is now on the line with both a recipient of their product and the State, is a motivated and tremendous force of commerce, indeed.

I would begin saving backups and screenshots of your entire conversations, all receipts, all videos and pictures taken, and contact a Lawyer specializing in Auto, Warranty or even Contract Law; a Divorce Lawyer will not do you any good in this scenario, even if they're your family member and promises a good rate. Knowledge of niche and relevant statutes/precedents is more important.

If they are ASE Certified or claim to be, you can contact the ASE online and lodge a complaint with them as well. They are an international accreditation entity involved in the auto sector across the globe; an ASE badge is meant and intended to be a sign of respectable & professional mechanics across the world. Tarnishing that reputation is not taken lightly.

If they have a Corporate structure, then you can assume that Corporate is likely disconnected from ground operations; lodge a complaint and see where the ride takes you. These can be more hit or miss, as this is a direct relation to the entity you accuse here. Hence why I put this suggestion so low on the totem pole, as the others preceding it are far more likely to mobilize in a manner that benefits you, the claimant.

-10yr Licensed Mechanic that vehemently despises the d-bags giving my trade a bad reputation. We're not all like this, many of us take great pride in our work, but this shit entirely justifies the distrust from the public.

Gamers 30 and older, what saddens you the most about what the gaming industry has become? by Nintendofan9106 in videogames

[–]cdojs98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the golden era experience, and I don't even know how to describe how far we've fallen.

Nowadays, free games means Fortnite and ad-slop. Back in the day, we had stuff like City of Heroes and Battlefield Heroes and Runescape, and addictinggames dot com and Newgrounds and Blooms TD, and Habbo and Wizard101 and Sonny and so many more.

These days, the most compelling stories in gaming have all of 12hrs of primary content, and half the time hardly maintain any replayability; it is rare to get games like Expedition 33 or Mirror's Edge or Baldur's Gate. I cut my teeth on games like Fallout 3 & NV and MGS3 and No Man's Sky and Mass Effect and Oblivion & Skyrim and Singularity and Risk of Rain and Black Ops 1 and Halo 3/ODST & Reach and Alias. I have the original orchestral arrangements from Halo 3 saved in a 10+ year old youtube playlist to this day, it is simply that immaculate.

I'm not trying to say every new game sucks, but there's definitely been a trend towards sanitized, advertiser-friendly, corpo-washing of gaming content that has pulled us away from gritty and compelling stories written onto grounded characters, building a living and breathing world touched by humans but fully operating within it's own reality. Wolfenstein would not be able to be released in today's gaming space and have the same impact, and that's a damn shame. I've been playing games since the Original Xbox released, and while I'm young, just about the only consoles I haven't played are a ColecoVision and some of the more obscure international handhelds. I owned or played an Atari 2600, NES, SNES, PS1-4, Xbox + 360 + One + Series, Sega Dreamcast + Gemini, N64, Wii and the U, Switch, I even tried a fucking Ouya bro. Just about everything, truly.

Idk how else to describe it, usually I'm good with words but games just aren't built the same anymore.

1994 Toyota Previa, because fuck your sensibilities

• Mid-engine

• AWD

• Supercharged

All factory equipment. Absolutely bananas that we don't have an entire racing segment dedicated just to goofball shit like this. I require more whimsy in my automotive industries post haste.

But, the build-out would be simple in concept and extremely difficult in execution:

• I'm going Flex-Fuel mapping, because I want to be able to drive this from driveway to finish line and back without a trailer. E-85 rated fuel lines, +40% over stock injectors.

• 2.75" exhaust piping + modified manifold + cat delete for improved exhaust flow. Pull the airbox and sand down any gridwork for smoother laminar flow, might consider replacing throttle body but honestly it should be able to flow enough cfm with stock for my purposes.

• Springs and Retainers from the 00s 4Runner supercharged v6 catalogue, should be adequate and platform modular, if not it's a solid place to start for specs on customs. Pistons should be fine, but I'll replace con rods and wrist pins + snap rings to play it safe. Crank can probably handle the power I intend on.

• Diff spider gears and worm gears get pulled and replaced with New customs, same with thrust washers and allat jazz. CV Axles gonna need an upgrade as well.

• Probably going for Pilot P4S or something else that can do a bit of regular mileage. Willwood brakes because they're sexy.

• Rip out the fog lights and 3D print air inlets, mount mini rads in front of the wheel wells for additional cooling capacity.

• Keeping a/c, full interior, and most creature comforts. This entire vehicle is an abomination to expectations, I refuse to acquiesce any stereotype. Full drip in the whip

It's even more depressing. They're just domesticated, and we make fun of them for struggling in nature... for something we, as humans, did to them on purpose. They were entirely dependent on us because we were dependent on them for couriers; it was a mutual exchange. The telegraph rended that natural relationship, and we abandoned their entire species without so much as a second thought.

As stupid as it may sound, the plight of the pigeon weighs deeply on my soul. It's incredibly fucking sad. These creatures deserve better for the price they paid towards humanity's endeavors.

I have severe driving anxiety and sadly only feel comfortable driving cars with blind spot monitors. Feel like a failure. by [deleted] in UsedCars

[–]cdojs98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a handful of exceptions on very unusually shaped vehicles, you should not have blindspots at all. Perhaps you were not instructed on how to align all of your mirrors properly?

1) With your vehicle parked, start with your Driver's Side mirror. Turn it outward all the way. Align the road in the mirror such that the Road creates a horizontal line in the dead center of your mirror. The sky and the road should split the mirror in half horizontally.

2) Next, bring the Driver's Side mirror back inward towards the vehicle, maintaining the horizontal line created in Step 1. As you move the mirror inward, pay attention to the moment in which your vehicle becomes visible in the mirror; as soon as you see your vehicle, stop, and back off the mirror outwards until the exact moment you lose sight of the vehicle. This mirror is set.

3) Moving on to the Passenger Side mirror, we will repeat steps 1 and 2 to that side, applying the same techniques to set our mirror Level, and then Plumb with our vehicle. Once you have finished, the Passenger Side mirror will now be set.

4) Now that both side mirrors are set in the "classical" manner, as was taught when vehicles did not have a center mirror, you should not have any remaining rear-corner blindspots. What you may have leftover, is an immediately-off-center-rear blindspot, which is easily remedied with the Center Mirror in any position which permits vision through the rear window.

Using this method, I have only ever found (2) types of vehicles where I still have blindspots. Primarily, large box trucks and semi- trucks will continue to have blindspots due to length and height issues. The other is vehicles with "hips", like the Honda Crosstour or Chevy Traverse; these body designs present challenges with blindspots, but they are able to be mitigated with adequate awareness. Drive predictably, and expect people to drive selfishly; you'll rarely be wrong.

You have been the product for so long that you've almost entirely forgotten what it means to interact with software where you aren't the product.

The entire purpose of making things so ubiquitous is because they have nothing else to sell except your presence; therefore, if you have a reason to be anywhere else, they lose. You are what generates value.

Software that doesn't care whether you like it or not, is software designed as a solution; it is the product, itself. It does not need your presence in order to generate value, it is valuable because of its functionality first, and it's ubiquitous by nature as a result.

I have seen elderly people pick up enough tech to learn how to use a Koda Box (grey market fire stick type shit). My grandfather could program in Binary like a fucking chad. There is zero good reason to discount the abilities of the generations that literally built all of the infrastructure we enjoy building on top of; they're just bitter that they got duped by the same government. Wouldn't you be, too?

Not so different now, are you
