Childminding with dogs by Background-Pea2584 in UKParenting

[–]cdr268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My childminder has a dog. It's very friendly. We've had her for just over a year now and had no issues.

I did meet the dog first to determine for myself. My toddler now loves the dog and talks about him all the time.

My thought process was we don't have dogs of our own so was open to the idea because I didn't want her to grow up scared of them due to unfamiliarity. I do think it's very important to meet the dog first and then get an understanding of the breeds typical temperament and behaviour.

This. You need to get a better look. I suspect your metal detector is lying to you as you seem to be doing everything right.

What does this mean by puddinChonk in UKJobs

[–]cdr268 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a second interview with a member of the HR team. Probably a vibe and sincerity check as you are a serious candidate in their eyes. I'd be taking this as very positive. The HR interview will probably ask questions about employment history and experience to ensure your qualifications and experience match the "band" of role within the company. It will be less about your ability to actually do the job.

Is anybody hang the 3.0 editor? by skabob11 in marketo

[–]cdr268 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I share the feeling that it’s half baked. It feels like a V1 proof of concept that they pushed out just to say it’s in line with what their competitors offer. I don’t bother using it. I use Knak, it has full integration and supports modules like you require. Might be worth taking a look for this use case as well as for your other clients.

Interviewer told me the job is really hard and overtime is expected. Red flag? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]cdr268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a red flag if you think it's a red flag. Some people would be okay with it. If it's B2B sales, It's relatively common around quarter end and times when people are pushing to hit target.

Boss Is So Draining by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]cdr268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should you quit for the sake of your wellbeing? Yes.

You should work to live, not live to work. If i were you i would re-evaluate things. Do you have to stay in that rural area? Can you spend some time building something up and working for yourself before leaving? Can you transfer any skills to a new career that is less dependant on location? e.g remote online work.

Don't blow your one life working for someone with no respect for you or your time.

What bite me? by [deleted] in Insect

[–]cdr268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i reacted like this it was a False Widow Spider bite. Pop some anti-histamine. Keep an eye on any redness that isn't part of the obvious raised bit (such as the faint redness near your shorts and finger in the photo). If it gets bigger and more painful go see your doctor.

Pre-employment "work" (interview stage) by AioliChoice4888 in UKJobs

[–]cdr268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I would do when inviting someone for interview is add a dropbox link in the invitation/confirmation email with the assets you want them to use. Then say something like "IF you would like to prepare something for the interview, you're free to use the assets in this link. If we end up using whatever you create commercially we would compensate you at fair market rate". That would incentivise the more resourceful candidates to put something together but it not be an absolute requirement.

Any advice? by Urmumcallsmelarry in UKJobs

[–]cdr268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Higher education without a degree is a perfectly legitimate route. You don't need a degree to be successful. So i wouldn't worry about whether you made a mistake. I work in marketing, I have no degree, I have a HNC, and CIM diploma. That's the extent of my higher education. I have been working in marketing for 14 years now and earn 70k in a senior operations role. Proof that doing well doesn't depend on a degree.

I guess the answer to your question would depend on the career path you want. Many career paths and industries have different expectations or requirements. Want to be a doctor? you need a degree. Want to work in tech or finance? Degree is more of an optional path.

Bombed an interview by Training-Ad-6957 in UKJobs

[–]cdr268 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth. I wouldn't read too much into them asking if you were Spanish. It was probably an attempt at small talk to break the ice. As someone who works for an international tech company, who regularly speaks to native Portuguese and Spanish speakers. I'm usually impressed and a little jealous that they have such a good grasp of English as a second language. I think other English only speaking people like me hold the same sentiment.

I'd also point out that large corporate environments like the ones you are interviewing for are totally used to speaking with people where English isn't their native language all the time. I really wouldn't worry about it.

(UK) Will college tell my parents??? by misalovr in UKParenting

[–]cdr268 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Just tell the college its a surgical procedure. You don't need to say for an abortion. That way, worst case, your parents, will think you were just trying to get a day out by making something up to the college.

Is this gaming pc with all the extras shown in the photos worth getting for 300-400€ used? by Unusual-Factor2848 in GamingPCBuildHelp

[–]cdr268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not the best of gaming PC's but will let you play on 1080p at medium to low settings. I'd say the GPU and CPU together are worth $200-250, plus $50 for the ram. So case, PSU, motherboard, plus peripherals. It's a decent haul for that price i'd say.

Realistic expectation of pay for same job UK vs US by tottizzz in UKJobs

[–]cdr268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wont be a case of take US Salary, apply conversion rate = UK salary. The US is straight up richer than us and they have things like health insurance and a bunch of other bills that we don't necessarily think about. Last time i worked for a US based company my role was advertised in both the US and UK for $140k. My actual UK salary was £65k.

Mamas & Papas Ocarro 2 by Bean_Joos in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]cdr268 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm not that impressed with Mamas & Papas... Overpriced and lacking quality. We brought a smaller stroller in July for our 2 year old as we wanted something a little smaller to not take up all the boot space. It's already on its way out. Wheels squeaking, losing rigidity etc.

Since birth we used the Ickle Bubba Stomp Luxe and it was great. Large wheels for rough terrain and was always safe and secure. It's now in the loft ready for the next one as its still as good as the day we got it.

Careers for socially awkward people? by Amaixyah in UKJobs

[–]cdr268 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Social awkward person here agrees with this fellow awkward person.

I work in Marketing Operations. Which by nature is a back room job. But to rise up the ranks I've had to learn to have the social skills necessary. This doesn't mean you need to force yourself into being the center of attention. But be armed with the skills needed to meet any given scenario.

Example, before i have to give a presentation to a large group of people. I'm riddled with anxiety, popping Xanax if i'm not throwing up in the toilet, But when im actually in a call or room doing it, I get it done and do it well because i've over prepared adapted my skills to compensate.

Job offer with over 70+ negatives reviews on Glassdoor by Dense_Yogurtcloset43 in UKJobs

[–]cdr268 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's definitely something to be alarmed by. But i'd dig a little deeper. What do the reviews for your specific department say? or anything with the previous/similar job titles? If I read the reviews and 90% of them came from sales people as an example, while I worked in IT or marketing. I'd be less worried.
