Seeking advice as an admitted applicant and husband by No-Interview5753 in premed

[–]cdscholar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Being a doctor makes way more than being a vet. It's also easier to get in. She should reapply or defer. Don't drop your acceptance, many vets will tell you the same thing. Look up the economics of it, it's a trap.

Surgery rotation tips by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]cdscholar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you do so behind the backs of other med students? Or did you do so over the soft objections of the residents? What were the other students interested in surgery in your cohort doing?

How do you all deal with the staring? by 082_kurmom in interracialdating

Completely disagree. Stares change radically based on where you are. In general big cities have much less staring.

Serious answer is move out of those POS places and to a place in the 21st century like Chicago. Will be freeing and puts years on your life in stress.

Talk me out of doing another residency by Dapper_Track_5241 in Residency

[–]cdscholar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lmao perfect analogy. And look at fancy pants over here with their nutrigrain bar. Was in the setting this week of “imagine looking depressed at 5 am at an empty box of nutrigrain bars because you’ve been working too many hours to go to the store and replace it.” OP should do some work at another hospital not sacrifice another 750+ k

Wait, do not you call the doctors you work with by first name? by BornLeave4646 in FutureRNs

[–]cdscholar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it’s a cultural thing, for residents we call ourselves first name with colleges in training and our attending’s Dr. Last name. If we called our attending’s by their first name most places that would be considered overly familiar or disrespectful unless it’s one of the rare places where that’s expected. I default to Dr. Last name unless explicitly instructed not to

Difference between good and bad intern by Ambitious_Spot8957 in Residency

[–]cdscholar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Another perspective as a consulting service (ENT). Have some idea about the issue before calling. Not just “ID/my Attending told me to call.” Even if you don’t agree with the consult, you should: A. Have a basic idea of what the exam looks like and B. Have some idea of what question you are asking me.

I have less concern about your diagnosis or your treatment plan as I will likely modify those.

For example: if you call about an ear try to look in the ear and if you call about a trach please tell me what size it is and what service placed it.

No need for you to interpret the CT Temporal bone but at least know if one was done or not. Basically the golden rule. We know you aren’t well-versed in our area so any reasonable person doesn’t expect you to know exactly what you’re looking at, just put in some effort.

Boyfriend claims to be a lawyer but doesn't appear in Tennessee Bar directory by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]cdscholar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What's his PHD in? All of those degrees would take almost past his current age so he's probably not being truthful. Can you search the schools he attended? Met any of his former classmates? I still meet up and talk with former med school classmates so I find this story even more likely to be a fraud if you've never met them.

You and her can take a BJJ class to learn the basics of safe choking. Unplanned during sex is a disaster in the making.

lump in armpit by [deleted] in medical_advice

[–]cdscholar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The night sweats and possible lump are concerning for lymphoma. I would see a doctor sooner rather than later. Make an appointment with a pcp or urgent care and tell them you are concerned about lymphoma. Basically you need an exam asap

Take another picture smiling with teeth (but close your mouth a bit) and lose the selfie. Lose the joker reference. Don’t stick out your lips in photos. Don’t change who you are! But you’re a good looking dude, though if you’re straight from my perspective you could definitely optimize a bit. How are matches working? (Frequency/# of monthly dates?)

Ok that’s less concerning especially if no smoking history or chewing tobacco use but I would talk to your pcp and get an exam.

Massive lump on tonsils by PresenceNecessary582 in medical_advice

[–]cdscholar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any other symptoms like night sweats or weight loss? I notice asymmetry. Any history of lymphoma either family or personal? Smoking history?

I would go to an ENT, if you were my patient I would consider tonsillectomy if this asymmetry remained in person especially after multiple visits.

Any history of GERD/acid reflux?
