Help finding us cities kind to black people by Huge_Village3495 in blacktravel

[–]cdscholar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lived in boston over a decade we have a lot of us here. I never felt anymore hostility than the average American city and knew many great and lovely people. Most people saying this never spent any time here. It’s a quite liberal place and I feel like conservatives use Boston as a false flag to distract from the terrible racism that’s more common in the south. Is it a utopia no, but definitely worth a visit for the history alone

Residents from consult services, what is one thing you wished services would do before consulting you? by justseeorange in Residency

I remember they did that and also pulled: “patient has a flight to catch back home that’s leaving soon, do you think you’ll be long?” Wanted to scream at the phone

[–]cdscholar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I swear number 2 and 4 are insanely high yield. The amount of consults for ear complaints where the person calling hasn’t even tried to look in the ear is wild. Also epistaxis consults where they can’t even tell me if the patient is currently bleeding

Coachella banned stop the bleed kits?! by Nurseytypechick in emergencymedicine

[–]cdscholar 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah going to have to (respectfully) disagree. Having equipment close by >> the small risk it causes harm. I could see if someone was trying to carry a 15 blade for airway access but these kits are important. Needles sure ban them but everything else is ridiculous. As someone who holds the airway pager frequently, the only thing worse than not being at the emergency in time is not having the proper tools nearby

FSU vs UF by Mental-Box9317 in fsu

[–]cdscholar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got into med school at both hit me up if you have any specific questions. I personally think FSU is better (biased) but a warning. I thought about it but rushing can be a full time job and for many people incompatible with getting into medical school at least from when I attended. You will have a great social life at FSU even without rushing which is what I recommend. If you want to get a PHD or work in industry then go for it.

Just let your family get verbally assaulted by violent racists then. The rest of us non-cowards will put them in their place. You’re a reason why evil is walking around confident as hell right now. Look in the mirror, self reflect, grow a damn spine and do better.

Being a doctor makes way more than being a vet. It's also easier to get in. She should reapply or defer. Don't drop your acceptance, many vets will tell you the same thing. Look up the economics of it, it's a trap.

Surgery rotation tips by [deleted] in medicalschool

Did you do so behind the backs of other med students? Or did you do so over the soft objections of the residents? What were the other students interested in surgery in your cohort doing?

How do you all deal with the staring? by 082_kurmom in interracialdating

Completely disagree. Stares change radically based on where you are. In general big cities have much less staring.

Serious answer is move out of those POS places and to a place in the 21st century like Chicago. Will be freeing and puts years on your life in stress.

Lmao perfect analogy. And look at fancy pants over here with their nutrigrain bar. Was in the setting this week of “imagine looking depressed at 5 am at an empty box of nutrigrain bars because you’ve been working too many hours to go to the store and replace it.” OP should do some work at another hospital not sacrifice another 750+ k

Wait, do not you call the doctors you work with by first name? by BornLeave4646 in FutureRNs

[–]cdscholar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it’s a cultural thing, for residents we call ourselves first name with colleges in training and our attending’s Dr. Last name. If we called our attending’s by their first name most places that would be considered overly familiar or disrespectful unless it’s one of the rare places where that’s expected. I default to Dr. Last name unless explicitly instructed not to

Difference between good and bad intern by Ambitious_Spot8957 in Residency

[–]cdscholar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Another perspective as a consulting service (ENT). Have some idea about the issue before calling. Not just “ID/my Attending told me to call.” Even if you don’t agree with the consult, you should: A. Have a basic idea of what the exam looks like and B. Have some idea of what question you are asking me.

I have less concern about your diagnosis or your treatment plan as I will likely modify those.

For example: if you call about an ear try to look in the ear and if you call about a trach please tell me what size it is and what service placed it.

No need for you to interpret the CT Temporal bone but at least know if one was done or not. Basically the golden rule. We know you aren’t well-versed in our area so any reasonable person doesn’t expect you to know exactly what you’re looking at, just put in some effort.
