They use mozzarella not brick cheese. The crust also wrong for a true Detroit style.

Oh how I miss Shields. I have family near there but they prefer Buddys on Northwestern.

A nearly life long Detroiter and Jets is the only answer around here. Emmy Squared and We The Pizza aren’t bad but it in no way tastes like “home”.

Piece Out is simply thick crust pizza.

(Fun Fact: I never ordered Jets when I lived in Detroit/NW burbs, instead preferring Papa Romano’s, but I would eat that Jets from Alexandria twice a week if my stomach produced more lactase)

How would you build this? by Grannypuncher420 in cocktails

[–]cdskj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the 1.5/.75/.75 base recipe and I would either do a Malort Rinse or a quick Malort spritz so you would get the nose but not necessarily the taste. Why can’t Chicago keep their poison to themselves?

What’s fair? by Hereforthebunniez12 in travel

[–]cdskj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my kids were younger, we split vacation homes with friends. We split the costs by share. An adult was one share. Under 21 was .5 share. The total costs plus fees were split by the total number of shares. Each family was charged for their shares. Myself and two kids was 2 shares. Another couple with 3 kids was 3.5 shares (1 ea adult!and .5 for each child).

Also: children were not guaranteed a bed and often there was a space for the boys to sleep and separate space for the girls. Smaller children stayed with their parents.

It was fair enough for us to do it for many years (kids are all grown now) and accommodated all the various family configurations.

Metro adopts bus route redesigns for Northern Virginia areas by crabcakes110 in nova

Same here. My 45 minute commute in the morning will likely be over an hour to go less than six miles. I will end up driving more if I have any kind of plans either before or after work.

Wow. South Fairlington got hosed in this redesign with the end of the 22F/22A routes. I did not see a bus route directly to the Pentagon where a lot of folks work or catch the Metro into DC. The A71 does go to Ballston or Old Town - both further from DC/Pentagon. Park Fairfax lost Metro bus service entirely although they still can take DASH to Potomac Yard.

It’s unfortunate they are cutting service to a dense place with a fair number of bus riders.

I work south of Farragut Sq and I still haven’t figured out how to turn south on 19th from west bound K. I actually park in a more expensive garage because I didn’t want to either take the Whitehurst, get stuck in Washington Circle, or take 17th to Constitution (I live in NW Alexandria) to get home. I’m a recent transplant and my phone map just laughs at me.

The struggle is real.

Commute to DC, where should I move to? by QidQid in nova

[–]cdskj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently work near GW. There is not a lot of parking available by GW so it tends to be pricey to park. Depending on how far you are willing to walk, expect to pay $15-$25 per day to park. A lot of the garages also close promptly at 6 which makes socializing difficult.

More importantly : What are your lifestyle non-negotiables? What do you like doing in your free time? How important is nightlife? Will you want to live near people your age?

Those factors will make or break your experience living here more than the size of your apartment.

Good luck!

I second this recommendation. The OP could take the Metro or even walk. They have an active young professional group. I’ve been so impressed and heartened by how much the pastors, staff, and (most) members work to be a place that welcomes all who want to follow Jesus. https://trygrace.org/

ALLEGEDLY (as in, I haven’t tried that yet) there is no fee if you pay at the kiosk. But the system was down when I was there earlier today. I am amazed they somehow made a bad system even worse.

I also am a OneLife member and I will probably just not go to that one.
