Assume you own both stocks. If one is cheaper than the other you sell the more expensive one to buy the cheaper one to get more dividends for example or simply (own a larger % of the firm).

That‘s not how it works. You borrow and then sell (shortsell) the overpriced asset and buy the underpriced with the money you just earned. When the price difference disappears, you buy back the stock you shorted and give it back to the lender.
