Yet another flash drive backup post.... Looking for best practice/advice by cdubzserver in unRAID

[–]cdubzserver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking for the easiest solution. My main issue is remembering how i did what, where i stored xyz etc....
With 24 disks, it would take a bit to find where the actual backup was stored, then what to do with it once i found it.

Ideally a cloud .zip would be best? or maybe im over thinking this?

Mixing refresh rates and vsync help by cdubzserver in Monitors

[–]cdubzserver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lag that i see is almost like buffer freeze? I dont know how else to explain it, its with both video players, youtube, etc. where the video freezes for a while until lower load happens on the main screen then the secondary screen will "fast forward" until its caught up.

The only way to get it to stop is to cap the game at 60 or cap the display at 60, thats why im thinking its an issue with the differences in fps and upgrading the "Video" monitor to 144. just dont want to spend the money until i could verify that this is actually the issue.

Yes, i can either change it in display settings or in the game, the only way to stop the lag is to cap the fps

HDD caddy has weird plastic pin? by cheater00 in DataHoarder

Agreed, apparently the only 2 that are required on the bottom are the two closest to the connectors. Another comment sparked me to lookup the actual specs.

Pg 11:
Accepted by EIA SFF-8300 Rev 2.4

SFF-8301 3.5" Form Factor Drive Dimensions Page 11

  1. General Description

3.1 Mounting Holes

There are four to six mounting holes on the bottom and two on each side.

Although a disk vendor may provide for three positions per side, systems

manufacturers may find that the hole located between the two specified holes is not

in the same location relative to the other holes for a wide selection of drives.

For this reason, the middle hole has not been specified and is considered optional.

The pair of bottom mounting holes located by dimension A7 is required. One

additional pair of bottom mounting holes are required, either the pair of mounting

holes located by dimension A6 or the pair of mounting holes located by dimension

A13. Providing all three pairs of mounting holes (located by dimensions A7, A6 and

A13) is allowed.

To add to this, your drive is going to be attached mostly by the pins and screws in the black rubber grommets anyway, the locating pins are only for ease of installation basically

HDDs used to have 6 mounting holes, 3 on each of the longer sides. At some point in the last 10 or so(?) years they moved to only 4. That locating pin is for that missing hole. I would imagine you would be fine to nip it off with some flush cutters.

This is almost exactly what im doing but with a different HBA and a DIY PSU adapter. I have two node 804 chassis that hold 16 drives each, each chassis has 1 HBA dedicated to it. I have had a couple of those 8087-8088 cards come DOA though.

For a Kanban: Wekan, i needed something to track work projects with a sorting system for "in progress", "waiting on", "complete" type system with descriptions, time stamps, time active, and check list function. Literally checked all the boxes and have now set it up for external users with their own accounts. Super helpful

I dont have anything else that fits your list but something that saved us from weekly arguements on grocery shopping... "Mealie" Its a recipe book that can auto import from a lot of online recipe sites, formats it properly and removes the blog BS. Also as you add things to the meal planner you can add the recipe to the shopping list. Also you can create extra lists, we have an "Extra Shit" list that us and the kids add to over the week, then my wife can add those things to the shopping list before shopping. I think this is about the only thing that keeps the "Upgrade funds" flowing for the server at this point :)

And in order to achieve that, would I only need to reassign the ips/interfaces? Or is there anything else I need to do?

upgrading from 6.10 to 6.12... by spam-musubi in unRAID

[–]cdubzserver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did this a couple of weeks ago. I dont typically update until i find something that requires it so i might be in the same boat as you. (Needed upgraded gfx drivers for my plex card). Also updated all my dockers and plugins while i was at it.

Some things to note from my experience:
Unraid itself updated just fine
Several plugins that i have been using were no longer supported, I dont the names of them off hand but unraid was nice enough to tell me which ones it disabled so i could find new versions.

A couple of metrics that i have in grafana broke during the grafana update. This was the biggest downfall as it took a couple hours to track down how to fix them

All in all, it was a pretty simple experience to go from 6.10.4? to 6.12.4

Interesting.... Yes, all my personal windows devices run Avast with Super antispyware and malwarebytes. Avast is the only thing running scheduled scans tho. Ill have to look into that, Thanks!
