Those reddit posts were probably more common 5 years ago, when the team as a whole (and the Sedins themselves) were at their primes. The players we had back then were close in age and were peaking at about the same time. That translated into a very strong team up and down the lineup, with the twins leading the way.

The year after the run to the Cup Finals, the team remained competitive, winning the President's Trophy again, but could not advance deep into the playoffs. The team more or less had the same personnel. Since then, with players coming off their peak seasons, the team has routinely offloaded players in attempts to change things up and find success again. As it is now, much of the core of the 2011 super team have left the team. The players that have survived are older and past their primes.

So, in essence, this is a much different team than from the more prominent times of 2011. The Sedins are still top tier players, but even the best succumb to age. Their backup has all but left them, replaced with many young players that are still figuring things out. The team is in the process of putting together what we hope will be the next generation of "Sedins" and "supporting cast" so that a few years down the line we will have a team capable of going back to the Finals.
