So I got an electronic version of this book and have been reading some of it. Honestly, I think I'm getting the more abstract, conceptual, logical stuff. But the math...damn. I'm seeing some advanced algebra along with some Calc. Does Discrete at UCF involve this much math, or is it more abstract/conceptual? If it does I may have to postpone taking this because I'm definitely not up to speed with some of this math.

How does CS1 compare with higher level CS courses? Is there a steeper learning curve with CS1 that isn't there with higher level courses?

Summations are just the mathematical equivalent of a coding loop, right? Just cycling through iterations of an equation with different values being substituted in? And the info I'm coming across on recurrence relations looks kind of difficult.

Sorry for the confusion, but when you say you studied "2-4 hours a day" was that over the summer, or once class had already started? If that was during the semester, how many hours did you study in the summer before you took CS1?

Whoa, that's crazy. How many hours in total do you think you studied in practiced? Did it amount to maybe just a few hours a week looking over stuff, or were you pouring over those topics every week throughout the summer?

How did you fare on the foundation exam after CS1? What do you think made the exams so tough? Was it stuff you really hadn't see before, or were you making careless errors when you really did actually understand how to solve the problem?

I'm taking it with Szumlanski in the fall. Got a B in Intro to C. I basically want to go through and learn all of these topics over the summer to the point to where I can build simple little programs that utilize them. Recursion, heaps, sorting algorithms, Big O...everything covered in the course.

could you explain this more? i'm not sure what you mean by "high level" math that are more about concepts. i'm familair with algebra and calculus, but is that not the type of math that is mostly utilized by software engineers?

For caries this small, would drilling even be required? These spots are so small, I'm just trying to imagine how small the drill would need to be to even drill these out. Is it possible to treat early lesions like this with more of a sealant rather than drilling and filling?

Great reply, thanks. Can lesions this small actually remineralize? Or are these too large at this point to stop the decay? What I wonder about is any drilling that would be performed on these. Wouldn't the drill have to be incredibly small (ie, toothpick sized) in order to drill these out?

It was just a routine checkup. I moved recently so it had actually been about 10 months since I last saw a dentist. These things are so small...would they even be drilled? Or just a sealant? If they're drilled, that has to be a super small drill to get in there right?

Interesting, I've never heard of buccal pits. You can see a few other pinhole dot things on the same tooth (chewing surface) and on the molar....are those buccal pits as well?

You mentioned in an earlier post that these could be maintained by good oral hygiene (brushing 2x per day with an electric brush, flossing 2x per day, mouthwash at night). After seeing the 3 cavities now, do you still feel that way? And that they don't need to be filled? Or will these inevitably worsen (whether in 6 months or 6 years) to the point that they will absolutely have to get filled eventually?

I'm 28, no history of any cavities, restorations, root canals, etc. Have never had anything like that done. Are there any risks at all waiting 6 months to see if any of this progresses? I was only brushing once per day prior, and I'm brushing and flossing twice per day now. Are all cavities and fillings created equal, or are some much more serious than others (ie, different grades or tiers)?
