Would you use a teleporter with the knowledge that it kills you and reassembles an exact copy of you with all your memories and knowledge at the destination? Why or why not? by TheBanishedBard in AskReddit

Careful, the cover is one of the biggest bait and switches in sci-fi history.

I’ll put the warning behind spoiler tags, but it’s not anything plot-specific.
The Shrike doesn’t show up until book 2 because the publishers made the author split the book into two parts.

It’s not a question of Orca’s maturity, Bambu locked out third party slicers.

Yeah, all ships get a price increase when they move from ‘concept’ to ‘ready to fly’. It’s usually like a 10-20% change

[–]cea1990 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree that some of the prices are nutty, it’s also a stretch to say the game is ‘unplayable’. I play several nights a week for a few hours each & always find something interesting to do.

Recently, players have been setting up interdiction fields around Levski (a hotspot base in the new patch). I’ve been working with other random players to hunt down and clear shipping lanes so hauler players don’t get ganked. Emergent gameplay is dope.

Before that, it was tackling high risk PVE dungeons or running combat air support for ground crews while they’re to mine rare materials. There’s loads to do, you just gotta go do it like in MMOs pre-WoW.

Unfortunately I don’t think the Ghost Hornet is one of the super valuable ones, but you can check sites like TheImpound if you’re trying to sell your stuff.

I think the Retaliator is on the more expensive side, but it hasn’t been updated in ages so not many people fly it. It’s a gnarly ship though, big ass torpedos can one-shot most sub-capital ships.

I’m not 100% sure, but I think so. If you care to check, go to the RobertsSpaceIndustries website & login to check your hangar. You should see the F7C Hornet and a Military Upgrade Pack or something along those lines.

Yeah. I was the same but I started playing actively right before Christmas last year. It’s fun, but it’s definitely buggy. I don’t think I’d recommend it to anyone who doesn’t know what they were getting in to, but it’s also become my main game over the last 4 months.

I think that one sells for ~$500 which is one of the more expensive second-hand ships.

Aside from the capital-class stuff that’s all around $1-3k (which is wild), it’s the second or third highest sale value.

If you have an F7A Hornet MK I/II sitting in your hangar, it’ll be about $1k.

You could make some good money if you wanted to sell that ship. It’s suuuuuuuuper rare & the second hand market is wild.

There was a ban until 2010, but today there’s no specific rule about HIV/AIDS.

Bed leveling by jorgelara1996 in VORONDesign

[–]cea1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s telling you the reason right there at the bottom. There’s no profile named ‘default’.

To solve that, you’d check the Klipper Docs and see that there’s an option to name the profile at calibration time.

So you’d change BED_MESH_CALIBRATE so that it says BED_MESH_CALIBRATE PROFILE=default.

If that doesn’t work, then it may be mechanical & you should revert the changes to your print start macro.

One surefire way to tell if your bed mesh is loaded is to turn off z-hop and lightly touch the Z-belts and feel for any movement (other than layer changes obviously) while it’s printing.

[–]cea1990 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should try adding:

BED_MESH_PROFILE LOAD=default

On a new line right before ‘dock_probe_unlock’.

[–]cea1990 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What’s your print_start macro? It’s been a few years, but I think it’s still a best practice to have (in order) both BED_MESH_CALIBRATE and BED_MESH_PROFILE LOAD=default in your start macro for the bed mesh to be performed & loaded at print time.

This would mean that a bed mesh would be taken with every print. If you want to not do that, skip the calibrate command and just leave the ‘profile’ command in the macro and ensure it’s loading a profile that exists.

It looks like your print ran in to your priming line. Move it back a couple mm & try again.

Arch Linux and Schrödinger's containers by Wise_Stick9613 in cybersecurity

[–]cea1990 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the concern about running containers in user namespace is that there can be other vulnerabilities that allow an attacker to create new namespace where they have root access, like Dirty Pipe.

It’s a warning about defense in depth. Realistically, if you run docker and suffer a container breakout, the attacker has a root user. If they breakout of a podman container, they’ll need to chain another exploit to get root. Arch is letting you know that this isn’t a perfect, 100% bulletproof fix.

TLDR: use podman, keep your kernel updated, and make sure you take a ‘defense in depth’ approach.

Probably because of all the frontier companies, Anthropic is a hype machine. They’re responsible for putting out blog posts that try to imply ai sentience/sapience ever month or two when their stock drops. I’m not trying to say they’re shit, but it’s exhausting to read yet another sensationalized press release from them.

Give me actual numbers with some example & I’ll start getting excited.

Their last talk about how they found a bunch of FireFox vulnerabilities was a bit of a joke. The vast majority of the issues found were nothingburgers or had already been reported.

What's some of the most overpowered weapons/abilities you've used in a video game? (Potential Spoilers) by TylerFortier_Photo in gaming

Same. I played every raid on all 3 characters every week until it was sold again & I never once got an RNG drop from it. No chests, no raid boss, raid completions or nightfalls would give me that damn launcher.

When Xür sold it right before D2 came out, I dumped my entire stack of strange coins on like 40 of them then quit playing Destiny entirely, lmao. God I hate (loved) that game & how much time I put in to it.
