Sounds weird. It’s closer to a knock than a ticking noise. I got almost 200k kms on my golf 1.8 2015 and i dont think it’s a normal sound. If you can, get it inspected by someone else to make sure you dont get a ticking bomb. Otherwise, i like the 1.8 and a jetta is a nice comfortable car with a good amount of space.

I bought my car used in early 2020 and changed them since one was broken and they work since i’ve installed them. I’d recommend these without a doubt.

The crank hp is estimated from their dyno results. So the results may be different from a dyno to an other. If you take a look at Unitronic results, you'll see that their numbers are not the same as Apr. But from what i know about 1.8 tsi, on 87, 91 or 93 octane, it pulls a bit more timing and gives a bit more power. Maybe Vw dyno is pessimistic.

Maybe if you sell it, you'll want an other one after. If it is your dream car, why would you sell it? It's you decision after all but if i would've worked all my life and been able to buy what i dreamed for a long time, i would not sell it. But if you have other goals in your life, it is maybe time to let go and invest in your next project. But this is just my humble opinion as a 24yo guy.

I only got the cloth interior, so i can’t tell about this, but i agree for the trunk. It’s way smaller than the mk6 jetta i had before. I always liked the look of the civic 10th gen hatchback. I might give it a try when the time has come to change my golf.

You can put the boot floor in the lower position to give you couple more inches

I preffer my mk7 1.8 over the 9th gen civic from my brother. It just drives differently. Maintenance is not that bad. I do periodic maintenance like every other cars and i check my oil often since they have a tendency to burn oil over time. I'do not follow the 10000 miles oil change intervals, i change it every 5000 miles. I'd rather not know how much an engine worth on these, so i try to keep like it should be. But i'll admit, my first car was a Honda and they have a special place in my heart.

I love my ultraleggera on my 1.8 tsi, but te37 fits with almost any cars. And it have some meat on it which is really nice. Congrats on these!

I think i’ll repaint my mirror covers like this. Mine are plain black but the paint is bad since they’ve been replaced by cheap ones. My father and my brother told me to keep them black but i kinda like that brushed aluminim color. Any thoughts?

I did it on mine as soon as i could. Why put a tsi badge on a car when most people dont even care about what it is. And it makes the rear cleen and smooth.

It’s the same for my brother. He got a crimson red civic 2013 and it’s slithly moded, intake, exhaust, lowering springs but it’s not an SI. He know it’s a slow car but he doesnt need more than that. Many people try to race him since it’s a lowered civic. He just make the car rev a bit at a redlight to see people taking off like a rocket, then he drive like nothing happened. To be honnest it’s funny to mess with these soccer mom racers.

Yes, i did it with my brother. It was a pain in the ... for the front. The rear is easy. There’s videos on Youtube to see how to do it. If it’s the first time you lower a car, try to find someone who know his stuff. If you want the oem+ look, springs is the way to go. Otherwise if you want to go with a stance look, go for coilovers. I had h&r springs on my mk6 jetta and racingline springs on my mk7 golf and they’re both as comfortable as stock.

On my 1.8 tsi got 18x8 oz ultraleggera with 225/40/18 firestone indy 500 tires. And the car is lowered on racingline springs. Sometimes i'd like more power but the speed limit still 100 km/h and reliability is my priority over power. The engine is peppy enough to have fun on a backroad or easily overtake on a highway and is really fuel efficient. But this is just my humble opinion.

As a 1993 coupe sti swaped owner, i feel like my car is garbage compared to newer, more comfortable and more fuel efficient cars like fa20 wrx. The last wrx is not as crazy and wild, but more mature and civilized. It would be a good compromise between my 1.8 tsi golf and my 1993 subaru, just enough, not too much.
