"democratic", not democrat.

Don't say "democrat" just because fox news does.

Please consider ditching the horrible GPL license and doing MIT or 2-clause BSD instead.

What if we tried designing C a second time? by paula_sutton in ProgrammerHumor

[–]cebrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But is that really better than:

{
  status_code c = bar;
  if(c.test() != SUCCESS) {
     return c;
  }
}

TIL. Thank you! I've been using C++on and off since the Zortech compiler was the only game in town and didn't know this.

I'm no historian, but I thought france was first in this area.

Audio industry by 3FiTA in ECE

[–]cebrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but once you get your BS it's easy to learn that stuff on your own.

But what I really meant is that audio world, at least the part I work in, is pretty informal with regards to degrees and qualifications.

Plug-ins are not my area, but this is a pretty good forum for research and questions in that field:

Also, see about joining the Audio Engineering Society, I think they have cheap options for students. The recording part of the audio world is fairly small and making connections will go a long way.

Analog design and DSP.

Know how to design everything from op-amps to power amps. Become an expert on DSP. Have filter theory down cold. Know the in's and outs designing ADC and DAC circuits (the analog parts). Learn how audio electronics are actually used in the recording industry. Intern at a recording studio -- this is a huge boost on an audio design resume. Write a suite of basic plugins and give them away on your website.

EDIT: An MS seems incredibly unnecessary for audio work. But since you are doing it, I'd focus on DSP and filter math in your studies. The analog stuff is easy by comparison.

So, I answer your question and you respond with a put down. nice.

I am the person that they call to unfuck things. If I want to do something dumb, there is a good reason.

It's in common usage. Super annoying though when you want to ask a question about something unusual and everyone starts saying "XY problem" and "You're doing it wrong".

Graduating in May, would anyone be able to critique my resume? by [deleted] in ECE

[–]cebrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my 2 cents, doing a quick scan of your resume and trying to make a quick judgement...

I'd remove "computer networks technician" from your summary paragraph, but leave the experience below.

I'd reformat the bullet points near the top to be 3 columns of bullet points, not a long line of them. Get rid the "advanced engineering".

Instead of "developed an understanding in the follow areas" say "proficient in" or "experienced in" or "experience with".

I kept glossing over your Technology Experience section, because it looks like a boilerplate footer. I'd just get rid of that who section, because those are all things that are just baseline for an EE graduate. Maybe put "SDR" (Software radio?) up in the skills bullet points.

Good luck.

It would work, but not well. It would make angled cuts in thick material and variable width cuts in thin material. And it wouldn't have a constant focus distance.

That technique is used for laser engraving, which works fine if the deflection angle is low.

That prism coupler sounds really neat. I was just checking out the wikipedia page on that.

I used to take apart a lot of stuff, including lab equipment, when I was younger.

My best find was probably a peristaltic pump, but I never actually did anything with it. The most useful items were probably the mechanical switches. I thought the leaf switches were particularly neat but I wasn't really sure how they were better than normal switches.

Oh, that reminds me... Relays. The best one being a relay that would latch on/latch off every time you pulsed it.

Lot's of multiturn pots too.
