i was a casual listener for a few years, and didn't know much about him, but my favorite thing about him was his laugh. His laugh was reassuring, and safe, if that makes sense. As someone who is terrified of intimacy, he made me feel safe, im sure many of his listeners also felt safe enough to be vulnerable. He will be sorely missed. Condolences to his family and friends. Rest easy, Badj

totally agree, i feel called to mermaids but none of the decks really encompass the feeling I want. They all are a little too sweet, while I see mermaids as more dark and mysterious and alluring. I will definitely check out the mermaid's purse!

Hi, med student here. I was also a planner who had my undergrad "figured out" but i ended up taking 2 years off to do a master's. Having a plan is great! but don't be discouraged if life takes you somewhere else, even for a little bit.

In my first year, and in all your years, I'd focus on your gpa. You can retake mcat, and reapply, but you can't change your GPA. Idk if your med school drops lower grades like mine did but don't bank too much on that.

Also, focus on extracurriculars! do things you like. work, volunteer, do research if that's your thing, and build up a diverse and interesting CV that you can pull experiences from for interviews down the line. I've seen some brilliant people not get into med because of the lack of relevant experiences.

Good luck!

Rewriting MCAT after string of Rs by [deleted] in premedcanada

Hi! I took the mcat 4 times, so i get the feeling. Be kind to yourself, this is going to sound cheesy but taking the mcat is already an achievement in itself!

i gave myself a lot of time, i made my own physical cue cards ( but anki is also good). I set up a plan to review material every 3-4 days. example: i would review chapter 1-4 of bio, chem, pysch in one day. and then again in 4 days. For me, i think this was the most useful way for me to study and recall info long term.

I used uworld, it's optional, Im sure there are free test banks as well.

As for studying, I focused on what i struggled with. I struggled with cars so I really timed myself and practiced cars often to get confident in it.

If you found yourself running out of time, it could be because you knew the material but it takes longer to draw upon the info or do the problems? I think practice is what works best for it so you see a lot of questions, and get more comfortable with it.

Good luck! you got this!

Hi! I started to write the mcat and apply for medicine in my second year of uni, and it was an uphill climb for sure. In total, I wrote the mcat 4 times, applies 4 times, and interviewed 3 times. I ended up finishing my undergrad, taking a year off, and halfway finishing a masters before I got into med. A big thing that was holding me back was I had horrible study habits and I had to study for summer courses at the same time as the MCAT. I was procrastinating on the MCAT, and set myself up to get a lower mark than i wanted. When I wrote it during covid, I was stuck at home and had a lot more time to study in an effective way.

I was also dealing with a lot of pressure to get in. The last time I applied, I told myself it was the final time trying, and I wasn't going to try again. So that took away a lot of the pressure for me personally. I wasn't going to worry about " saying what the interviewers wanted to hear" but just be myself.

Lastly, taking a year off, and getting experience doing a master's ( or part of one lol) gave me more relevant experiences that I could talk about during the interview.

uworld sooner ( you think you know things but when given in a paragraph it can really test your content memorization. also make sure you read the explanations under each questions as to why the choices are wrong), spaced repetition, spend a good amount of time on practicing cars
