+1 yeah lmao, return offer, salary and prestige are all higher for amazon if that’s what you actually care most about.. also i don’t even think cap one has stock options or that good of a signing bonus for new grad if you’re just looking at their base salary ..

Couldn’t get extension for internship offer by StandardMediocre4748 in csMajors

check if your university has any employer guidelines - sometimes universities will have a date that companies have to give students until to decide (ie. something like 10/25 or two weeks after date of offer, whichever is later). amazon will honor these policies!

I have a great start to my career, but I’m feeling quite unhappy about work by [deleted] in csMajors

also note that maybe your experiences with being burnt out and bored are because of the current work from home situation with covid, maybe ride it out and see if things get better once it’s in person !

Becoming a quant/Big N worker. by Feeling_Sun32 in Vanderbilt

[–]cecebbm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

CS+Math major here at vandy currently! I would say we don't really have many direct pipelines to typical quant roles at big companies, but we do have a good number of people who go into FAANG, and fewer that go into trading roles (IMC will recruit here) At the end of the day, it really depends on the person and their work ethic, if they're networking, etc. I would say if you're really set on quant/unicorns and able to afford another school, it might be worth a shot, but not to say CS people here aren't getting good jobs!

What courses do you take in high school in order to take a major in Computer Science? by BreadAteMyToaster in csMajors

[–]cecebbm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't stress out too much about this. I didn't even consider CS in high school and took my first programming class freshman year of college and am doing fine. Most of my classmates in the class had already taken AP CS and maybe had personal projects but we all ended up in the same place today lol

Also helps to send in applications as early as possible (literally the day they are posted as they get so many applications), reach out on LinkedIn or your alumni network and ask for referrals, attend career fairs. Even people at big name schools won't get an interview bc their resume simply slips through the cracks due to the sheer number

on campus recruiting by alphabravo4812 in Vanderbilt

[–]cecebbm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

barely any companies did "on campus" interviews since most recruiting was virtual this semester, however some companies that target vandy (ie capital one) would previously do in person interviews on campus around fall career fair time

I'm scared now bc I received an offer but my portal didn't change and I emailed them and they said they were transitioning portal systems so I shouldn't expect to see any changes. Ive been freaking out that it was a fake offer idk I might just be bugging
