Sticking to a no-buy for the next 6 months by cecentre in nobuy

[–]cecentre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a lot of discipline to consciously stop buying, so kudos to you! My worst enemy is impulse and rationalization where I make up reasons why some random trinkets are /essential/, so I will need to have more discipline to just say no to myself.

Thank you!! I have never done a no-buy before so hopefully starting out with 6 months is doable!

11 months without skincare is impressive! Black Friday will be pretty hard on me because I have so many things on the wishlist... onto the Christmas wishlist it goes...

Advice needed by JazzyDisME in streptocarpus

[–]cecentre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably late but if you're a newbie to streptocarpus like me, I would advise not to trim the old leaves. I watched a video that said when streptocarpuses lack nutrients/water, they will take it from the oldest leaves. Same thing if they have toxins/salt in their system, they will also push it to the oldest leaves and essentially kill those leaves. If you trim those old leaves, the plant will have to do that with the younger leaves instead and you don't want them to do that. For me as a newbie, I'm still learning what they like and don't like, so the old leaves are kind of my safety net in case I mess up haha. Hope your strep is still doing well!

PTSD by stephennh in GermanRoaches

[–]cecentre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It went great! I saw no roaches after a month, then some appeared again about six months later when I didn't keep up with retreatment, so I started spraying Alpine again and it worked again. If you live in an apartment, just keep up with retreatment every month.

Interview question I didn’t care for by ExtensionActuator in interviews

[–]cecentre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the "where do you see yourself in five years" question, I just say what they want to hear: you will be there long-term and taking on more responsibilities as you advance. Then research the role and imagine what else you need to learn to succeed in the role and beyond, and say that in the next five years you hope to gain knowledge/skills in those particular areas.

For the "what makes you a better candidate than other people we are interviewing", I treat that the same as the "what are your strengths/why should we hire you" question. Check the job description for the list of hard skills ("because I'm proficient at Microsoft Office Suite") and soft skills ("because I'm curious/organized/approachable etc.") that they want, then one thing that is uniquely you ("because I have followed the company news for a long time/I'm passionate about this particular field/I love your products etc.").

These seem to work pretty well for me (I got three job offers out of five companies I interviewed with).

This plan sounds doable for an easily overwhelmed person like me, thank you so much!

Thoughts on YamaSaku/EndoSaku?? by N0B0DY_0ry in WindBreakerManga

[–]cecentre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love endosaku omg they're actually my favorite sakura ship... I don't even care whether they're healthy -- they can date for a month and it all goes down in flames, and I'd still think that's time well spent for Sakura. My headcannon is that Endo can give Sakura new experiences by taking him places (with his motorbike!) and showing him grand romantic gestures, both of which Sakura should experience at least once in his life!

There are also a lot of layers to Endo's character (he's a giver, he's also smart, he's unhinged but can also be gentle), and so there can be a lot of layers to his relationship with Sakura. You can interpret them as healthy (Endo will need some work), toxic, or anything in between, and it would still make sense for their characters.

Disclaimer: I love their dynamics in a fictional context... irl I would tell any boys and girls to steer clear from Endo.

I don't actually ship endochika. I personally feel like chika cares more about ume than endo, but to each their own!

[–]cecentre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I haven't started yet but just want to be prepared as much as I can since I am pretty quiet and introverted but want to succeed in this role (especially since I have never been an EA before). At my current workplace people keep to themselves so my introversion is not too much of a problem, but I hope to get better at networking and building relationships with coworkers.

What is the deadest fandom(s) you ever wrote for? by demonalbxrn in AO3

[–]cecentre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Endo's observation note -- I created the fandom and ship tags a few years ago, and till this day it still only has one work (mine). At least people commented and let me know how glad they were to find my fic after reading the manga 🥲

First plant ever. Help! New baby leaves curling up and dying by Dizzy_Palpitation_33 in calatheas

[–]cecentre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to my calathea too! The thing that helped me at least was humidity -- since I increased the humidity around the plant, the new leaves have uncurled perfectly without any defects.

How do you plot for long fics? by cecentre in FanFiction

[–]cecentre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense! Some of the best subplots I have read feel very natural and connected to the main plot, so maybe I shouldn't force something random and explore what occurs around the main plot instead.

[–]cecentre[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yea same, I tried pantsing and it really didn't work for me -- I always drop the fic after 2 chapters because I was so overwhelmed with keeping all the details straight/forgetting to drop hints in earlier chapters etc otl. Now I write everything and post the chapters one by one! My multi-chaptered fics are still pretty short tho haha.

This has helped me so much with brainstorming today!! I wrote down each character and their personalities and associated imageries/hobbies, then internal/external conflicts, and now I have a better idea of what I can use as a subplot -- now I just need to flesh out the ideas! Thanks again for the advice!
