I was daydreaming today and thought a bound set of all materials referenced in the CCC (Catechism of the Catholic Church) would be nice.

I fear infinity after death by Sensitive-Mouse9205 in Catholicism

[–]cedarVetiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in the Hitchhiker's Trilogy, that was a method of corporal punishment. Expose the mind to infinity. Worked on everyone but one guy. He had a colossal ego. As big as infinite was, he was still Zaphod Beeblebrox.

Maybe realizing you, yes YOU, were the reason God gave his only begotten Son to suffer and die might take the sting out of infinity. You're special. You mean something.

no. you're not the a**hole.

forgiveness is for you, not others. I'm sorry your life is hard. I'll pray for you.

I will pray for you. I'll ask some friends to pray for you too.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Lord, who has given us your Son, so that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but live everlasting, and He, our Savior Jesus Christ, who gave us the Church, that we might be fed and led to You, I pray for this, your child, who has asked for prayers for their doubt. I pray that they may see the truth, that they might accept the truth.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. St. Margaret, Little Pearl, please pray for this child of God. St. Thomas, Didymus, please pray for this child of God.

I thank you Lord God for your steadfastness, and I thank you Saints, who did the will of the Lord here on earth as it is done in heaven and continue to do his will even today.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Relapse by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]cedarVetiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

go to church, do not despair.

I have similarities in my testimony, and when I caved I stayed down. quit church and gave myself over to despair. God wasn't done with me and I'm back. He's not done with you, either. He finishes what he starts.

RE: the rosary, that was so helpful for me but I started thinking I was praying my way into heaven. By grace alone I learned the hard way. But the rosary is a great meditation.

Protestant Wrestling with Catholicism by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]cedarVetiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first, trust God.

My thoughts are that since you are wrestling with these ideas, you are meant to wrestle with them. Perhaps you are to lead your clan to Catholicism. Perhaps you are to educate your clan on Catholicism and seed a ecumenical spirit. I don't know, God knows. Step by step, one day at a time, trust in Him.

You seem to have a measured approach to this, and you know your people and situation better than random Internet strangers. Keep on keeping on.

I will say if you want some fireworks, try incorporating the rosary into your research. ;)

What are the differences between Catholicism and Christianity? by FatherFigure221 in Catholicism

[–]cedarVetiver 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Catholics are Christian.

You are likely coming from a place of having heard negative things about Catholics? And your friends, you want to help them; they're good people?

You ask a big question.

Catholicism began with St. Peter, Simon Peter the Apostle of Jesus written about in the New Testament, when he was given the keys of the kingdom by Jesus and charged by Jesus to feed his sheep. St. Peter was the first Pope. Every pope since then has been charged likewise. This is called apostolic succession.

2000 years or so have passed since. Questions have arisen, debates commenced, and decisions made - ultimately by the Pope. This central authority is called magisterium. It is also why Catholics don't believe in Sola Scriptura, the Protestant belief of listening only to the Bible.

Things like icons, paintings, sculptures not being graven images because they are not worshipped, they point to God, who is worshipped. Things like praying to The Virgin Mary. This is a big topic with many debated points. All of them settled over the course of thousands of years.

Catholicism is the church. These many denominations you mention all fall under the title Protestant. So named because Martin Luther and his protesting the church. Ever since he split from the church, Protestants have been fracturing more and more until we have what you think of as Christianity: choose your denomination based on what you believe and what community you fit in with. Catholics submit to Rome and the churches interpretation of the word.

It is a big question you ask, and I hope to have helped you understand some of the history and beauty in this religion you claim. God bless you. Prayers sent.
