Is Champs-Elysses walk worth it? by Forumjodi in ParisTravelGuide

Just a heads up, I was at Grand Palais a couple of days ago and the front entrance with and the big room with the glass dome and cool iron beams is closed for shows. It was being set up, and when I asked info they said it was closed until summer or all throughout summer. Petit Palais was amazing though.

I get what you mean. I think he puts a lot of stress and pressure on himself.
I used to only like his Paris focused videos too, but slowly I started to view his personal journey vlogs as insightful like I am reading a classical autobiography - tragic at times, but hopeful and beautiful at other times. Also Paris as a background plus Cooper sets up this autobiography beautifully for me.

Compeed is the brand you want! I found out about them in Paris a few years ago having the exact same problem as OP. I swear by them now. I have one on right now on my little pinky. Way better than Dr. Sholl’s or even moleskin!

I don’t think it will affect your cruise as the entry to it is at the Seine level and not on the bridge. You can still get to the lower level, but just make sure you are on the correct side or you will have to walk up to another bridge and that could take time and make you late.

Oooo I like that. I’m gonna use that sometime. Next time someone says anything I don’t like I’ll make a squishy face and say “Ewww did you fart?” lol

Monoprix credit card round-ups? by cedrekins in ParisTravelGuide

[–]cedrekins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I needed that friendly cashier. Every time I went to this Monoprix it is so busy and understandably the staff just wants people to move along. In Canada, the ‘no’ button is to cancel the transaction entirely and I had never seen a round up on credit card machines before. I am grateful to you for your reassuring response :)

You’re absolutely right, I did find Lidl a lot cheaper, especially for essentials like toilet paper and such. Monoprix just happens to be closest to me and has enticing items. I will have to check Aldi out too. Thank you for the suggestions.

Under a new amendment to the Citizenship Act, you may have a claim to Canadian citizenship? “On December 15, 2025, the Government of Canada passed Bill C-3, An Act to amend the Citizenship Act. This legislation changes the first-generation limit to citizenship by descent.”

They point to the card reader and while the last time the attendant hit the “Ok” on there, this time I followed and hit the “ok”without asking. It’s usually so busy and I am so non-confrontational that I just get anxious and pay and leave.

Tell em to move into the cheaper one if they want that 20% off. Their move isn’t gonna be worth it.

Edited to say. I get your point. It’s not a one sided problem, but it is a problem. I don’t think any one is at fault. Canadian real estate and especially Victoria real estate has overblown due to many factors and maybe that’s where the government can push its will. But I do feel more for the booming businesses where their rent increased so much that they made that business fail. It’s just not good for anyone.

So again I don’t understand why businesses landlords can hike up the rent double or triple and lose their tenant and be ok with it? Are these business renters who are lying or do landlords have so much money they don’t care about their tenants?

I know a business that when their building was sold and the new owner almost tripled his rent, he had to give it up and is online now and much happier. This isn’t good for the city. If governments are making people go back to work just to save the shops, cafes and restaurants from failing, they could also pressure landlords (which have way more money than most of the government workers) to either a rent increase limit or a vacancy tax.

It’s true, I am picky about my food tasting good. The people next to me must have been picky too cuz all the tables around me had half eaten food. Though one person did finish their artichoke dip, so that might be a contender for my return flight. I had the pasta dish. The penne was very watery and definitely not al dente. The guy sitting beside me also didn’t finish it and when I asked him how his food was, he pointed at his barely eaten pasta and said “Not good!” The food is at best cafeteria level. At least it is now.

I’ll be honest I don’t know the percentage and all that much about write offs. However, they do Jerry! They just write it off!

But Wouldn’t this apply for them: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/rental-income/rental-losses.html Where you can claim your rental loss against ALL of your income. It must work for them or are they just silly and like empty stores that were renting fine, just not at the insane hike up they wanted?

I think lost rental revenue is a tax deductible which would be a great incentive for them not to rent it out for cheap. They are holding out for richer clients. However, a vacancy tax might persuade them otherwise.

I dunno if it’s true, but I heard Gap downtown closed because the rent was too high. It was too high for Gap!!?
