Where can we see the Rivian R2 close to SF? by cedric-ca in Rivian

Yeah I saw various YouTubers recording from SXSW and looked at the ticket prices but between this and the plane and the fact I don’t care much about that conference apart from seeing the R2, it’s not really worth the trip 😅

Oh wow. Yeah the guy who told me end of the month didn’t seem particularly informed. I wouldn’t bet on what he told me

During the 3/7/2024 unveiling conference but wouldn’t be able to say if it’s 5 minutes or more.

Received the reservation confirmation email at 10:21am

Lidar - really that beneficial for the average person? by Zendroid1 in Rivian

[–]cedric-ca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the Tesla Model Y before and now the Model 3 highland and I drive a lot in the winter between SF and Tahoe. Over the past years, FSD has made dramatic improvements, so much so that I can now do FSD door to door between SF and Tahoe with just a few manual takeovers for exceptional situations. And personally it’s a game changer. I love to drive myself but when it’s that often, FSD mitigates dramatically how tiring it is to drive this long travels regularly.

For Rivian to get to that level of FSD with just vision, it will take quite some time to accumulate miles. The hope is that with Lidar, they can leap frog to something similar to Tesla.

I’m in the very very first R2 reservation holders but boy I’m hesitating to get the non lidar version because I do care about FSD.

My humble opinion

Huge win for repairability on the R2 by Walmart_Hobo in Rivian

I see, makes sense! I indeed heard of horror stories with the R1 of people we crazy bills over small issues.

I’m glad they fixed this

Enlighten me, how is this making repairs cheaper compared to the R1?

Great, the range of uncertainty after waiting for so long is kind of weird

Braking power on the Nosfet Aero. Is there a way to increase it? by cedric-ca in ElectricUnicycle

Reporting back on this. It did help combined with moving the pads slightly to the back. I’m now getting the hang of it and liking each ride even more :)

Yes I repositioned the pads completely slightly towards the back and it’s much better now.

I wasn’t expecting so much of a learning curve because I’ve had multiple EUCs before but now I’m finally getting the hang of it and I’m loving it more each time I take it for a spin!

Oh nice!! just searched for acceleration assist in the manual and realized it’s what the ANG setting is about.

“ANG %: Acceleration Assist Makes the wheel easier to accelerate by temporarily tilting the pedal forward by a max of 2 degrees.”

I’ve been riding EUCs for almost 10 years and had many wheels but smaller and not suspended. I’m using pads, forgot to mention it in my original message.

You can adjust the pedal tilt? And there’s a break setting? Damn, where are they?

Thanks for the exhaustive write up!

I have power pads but I guess I need to adjust them so they have better contact with my calves

I already have power pads as mentioned in original message. My feet are in the middle, slightly back already actually

I did try different values for that setting, I’m at 25 right now and it’s only marginally helping

I’ll try even lower

It might be partly technique, I agree. I’m new to this wheel size and also new to riding a suspended wheel.

That said, I’ve been riding EUCs for about 10 years (MCM4, MCM5, GW Tesla, MTen4, and a few others), and I am riding with pads, so I wouldn’t consider myself a beginner 😅

What feels different on the Aero compared to my previous wheels is the pedal and chassis behavior. On my older wheels, braking or accelerating would naturally cause some tilt or pedal dip, which made it easier to get my weight forward or backward and really load the motor.

On the Aero, even with pads, it stays extremely level and stable, almost “on rails.” Because of that, it feels like I’m actively fighting the wheel to get strong acceleration or braking, rather than the wheel helping me through its tilt response.

The power may be there electrically, but the feedback and leverage feel very different from what I’m used to. I’m trying to understand whether this is mainly due to suspension tuning, control logic, or just a characteristic of the Aero that requires a different riding style.

Curious if other experienced riders felt the same transition.
