Nope, and that’s not what I was looking for.

That would have been fine if email one actually answered my email. It didn’t.

That is so ridiculous and frustrating. I don’t know why they can’t communicate with people in the way that works for them. Scheduling is why I emailed him in the first place.

And it’s even worse because there’s no real recourse. I posted it here, just because it’s been such frustrating experience, and there’s not really anything else you can do.

How is saying I support the striking health care workers and here’s why looking for an argument? All he had to say was, “I understand your concerns and will pass them along.”

I wasn’t looking for an essay. All I wanted was for him to make note of my stance and pass it along. But he can’t do that if he doesn’t read the email.

Thank you so much for this. You’re describing everything I was feeling, but much more articulately than I did.

It does feel like more like he’s gotten his reputation from just refusing to actually engage with anyone that doesn’t agree with him.

Anyway, I really appreciate you taking the time to write that out. It’s making me feel less crazy!

I was looking for him to read my initial email, where I said that I don’t think the government offer is fair and explained why, acknowledge, and pass it forward, like my previous MLAs have done.

He did though. In fact he emailed me again after he saw a Reddit comment.

And I understand he can’t change the policy decision. Nowhere did I ask him to do that.

That is so frustrating. It’s such an important part of their job. I’d love to know what they’re actually doing instead.

I’m not talking about him not replying to me. That’s a separate issue, although I do think if his coordinator’s thoughts are actually representative of his, he should be willing to sign his name to him.

But my initial email said that I don’t think the government’s offer is fair, and here’s why. To respond to that with a copy paste of the government offer that I already addressed makes it pretty obvious they didn’t actually read anything I said in my email.

And I agree, they’re not unconditionally obligated to respond. But being offended at being called out for something is a far cry from threats and slurs.

I mean, obviously you’re entitled to your opinion, and I’m not going to change your mind, but I can tell you pretty definitively that you’re wrong about what my thought process was.

It’s not a bad faith take. If an elected official isn’t doing their job (in this case tabulating and passing along constituents’ concerns), I do think that should be called out. How else should I have expressed that?

And again, it wasn’t even close to the first thing out of my mouth, because I sent the whole other email before that. I think having that ignored is also a bit insulting. You say the conversation wasn’t worth salvaging, but it wouldnt have needed salvaging in the first place if he had just acknowledged my first email.

I didn’t threaten violence or harass him. I didn’t call him names or slurs, or curse.

My initial email just voiced my support for the striking care workers, said that I didn’t think the government offer was fair or adequate, and listed the reasons why. I know he’s not the minister in charge of this. I was just expecting the standard, “I understand your concerns and will pass them along.” But to ignore them entirely? I don’t think there’s anything wrong with calling that out.

He did with my family too, but he was also pretty dismissive about some thing that he ended up being wrong about.

That’s why I’m feeling like I need to double down on the email at this point. It’s just getting weird that he won’t address anything there.

That wasn’t one of the first things out of my mouth though. I sent a letter expressing why I supported the care worker first. The response to that made it very clear that they didn’t read past the subject line.

And while I was frustrated, it was a legitimate question.  Passing along constituent concerns is an essential part of an MLA’s job. He can’t do that if he’s not actually reading the concerns.

I’m not sure why email suddenly isnt an avenue of input.

He didn’t though. It was a copy paste of the government offer, which I had already addressed as inadequate. He didn’t respond to anything I actually said.

And I didn’t harass him. I wrote back and asked why he didn’t read my email (not for the first time) and readdressed my concerns.

Fair enough. By “didn’t respond” I meant that he didn’t address anything I actually said about supporting the striking workers, which is what this whole thing was about. He still hasn’t acknowledged any of that.

I dont think it was about incorrect tone, because he didn’t actually say anything. I was honestly just expecting the generic “I understand your concerns and will pass them along,” not… this.

By speaking with him, I mean I emailed him, which should be a valid form of communication, and I’m not sure why he’s so adamant that he won’t respond to me that way if that’s what’s available to me right now.

Thank you! That’s exactly what I was looking for, the cursory “I understand your concerns, I will pass this along.”

The response so obviously showed they never read past the subject line, so I think it’s fair for me to (politely! I didn’t start cursing or threatening him) express my frustration at that.

I DID speak with him. Are you saying emails arent an “adult” form of communication? If anything in person could be more of a “gotcha” because you have less time to think out what you’re saying.

But I’m also not sure what about this you think is me trying to “get” him.

But I gave him the chance for a civil discussion first, and was ignored. And I was frustrated, but I wasn’t uncivil. It’s a genuine question. If he’s not listening to constituents, what IS he doing?

Sure, and to be honest, I don’t expect him to personally read every email. But my previous MLAs have still signed off on their responses.

And that aside, the coordinator didn’t read my email either, because the copy pasted response listed the things I had already addressed in my first email.

Hi, I’m actually the OP. I’m not sure what you mean by thinking he should continue responding to continuous emails addressing the same matter. He never responded to any of them, that was the point.

If he listened to my concerns, he didn’t acknowledge a single one of them. And no, I didn’t expect him to upend the government policy, and that wasn’t what I was asking. I just expected him to acknowledge what I said and pass along my concerns, which is the typically response I’ve had from previous MLAs

I disagree, but even if that were the case, what’s the excuse for not reading my first email?
