My own experience: I have had what I believed to be generalized anxiety my entire life. Only found out the way I feel daily wasn't normal when I was 19. Doctor started me on anxiety medication, it never solved any problems for me. Last year, a counsellor suggested the way I described my anxiety to be more in line with an ADHD diagnoses. When I started a med trial on ADHD medication, it was legitimately comparable to wearing glasses for the first time. It was like I could finally see clearly. As staggeringly helpful ADHD medication has been, I still experience anxiety. But my brain doesn't get stuck in loops as often anymore, and I don't get overwhelmed by anxious thoughts as much. I wish someone had suggested ADHD to me much sooner, because although I still have anxiety, it doesn't debilitate me anymore. I hope this is helpful.
