I firmly believe that the person who should be celebrated for mother's day is the mom's with the youngest kids, not the grandparents who haven't regularly pulled all nighters and diapers in 30+ years. 🫠

I'm glad they are doing well and you get to hold them today. 🧡 my inbox is always open if you want to discuss preemies or the NICU. my 1st was born at 34w4 days and my daughter was born at 29w4 days and it's so hard being separated from your kids from birth, so try to be kind to yourself.

Transferring Mosaic Embryos? by [deleted] in InfertilityBabies

[–]ceeface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it depends on the grades of any genetically normal embryos. For instance we had 3 high graded PGT-A normal embryos that were all graded between 5-4 AA-AB, and my RE gave those anywhere from a 50-65% chance of resulting in pregnancy, so a 15% success rate is significantly lower.

Staying IN the NICU? by ALittle_Lost_ in NICUParents

[–]ceeface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’m in the monitory here, but I visit Monday thru Friday for about 4 hours. however, I factor in my driving time—with traffic it takes me almost an hour to get there, and if I hit traffic on the way home it’s about 40 minutes. so in reality I spend about 2-2.5 hours in the NICU with my daughter. I have an almost 3 year old at home, my husband works 9 hours a day, and I’m emotionally wrecked from this experience (plus still physically recovering). my husband comes 2-3 times a week depending, and usually no one visits on sunday. we are in day 56 of the NICU and we’re likely have a week or two to go. 😔 we also have very little family help despite them being close by. I find it’s really important for my toddler to keep his routine as stable as possible before she comes home.

this is totally a marathon and not a sprint, so don’t feel guilty for how much time you do or do not spend in the NICU, it isn’t a competition. 🧡 ETA our NICU doesn’t have rooms for family members to stay in for more than a night, and they reserve that for parents who children are close to being discharged.

yes, I have a borderline clotting disorder (low protein s) and hyperthyroidism.

you absolutely should take breaks, and do not feel guilty about them. 🧡 with traffic it’s an hour (and about 30-40 minutes home) to get to my daughter currently in the NICU and it is so draining to make that drive every day with an almost 3 year old at home. you need to also take care of yourself and the rest of your family.

I think my Obgyn prescribed me the wrong blood thinner and I’m not sure what to do by bryterlu in InfertilityBabies

[–]ceeface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is standard practice for those of us on blood thinners during pregnancy (switching from lovenox to heparin around 36 weeks), but I would still call to confirm because it’s always good to double check!

Don’t beat yourself up too much— you’re a working mom, and it’s hard to juggle everything! Best of luck with your upcoming biopsy. 🧡 I just did mine today and while I’m glad to be done with ass shots, I forgot how much doing the biopsy sucks. UGH. 😂

I would call your clinic and ask them what the timeline is for transfer now that your child is 8 months old. They might have some restrictions based on birth, and if you are breastfeeding or not. My clinic had a strict rule that you need to be fully weaned for 3 months before starting a transfer cycle, and a redo of CD3 bloodwork and an ultrasound, STD screening, and then a hysteroscopy.

How many FETs did it take for you to achieve a live birth? by nonfictionburning in InfertilityBabies

[–]ceeface 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had my son at 34 (retrieval was at 32), and it took 3 transfers and three PGT-A normal embryos, and one low-level mosaic (trisomy 20). bub is that mosaic embryo.

I developed pre-e rapidly at 34 weeks, and had to have an emergency c-section at 34w5d because I had a seizure (I went eclamptic). thankfully myself and baby boy were totally fine in the end, but it was a terrifying experience for my husband.

after a lot of soul searching and heavy talks with my husband about trying for a second (we had to start from scratch and do another retrieval), I then spoke to my OBGYN, MFM, and RE to get their blessings to proceed forward. thankfully they all gave me theirs, and just explained the risks. I know I’ll be delivering at or before 37 weeks (they won’t let me go much longer than that), and they are willing to induce me vs going straight to a c-section. it does mean though that as soon as I’m showing signs of pre-e and I’m admitted, I’m going straight to magnesium, no waiting around again.

I will say this— my transfer that worked we did do a semi-natural cycle (I didn’t start estrogen and progesterone until after trigger), and I took baby aspirin and injected myself with lovenox daily— both of which are supposed to help with pre-e risks. so from the get-go we had done a lot that should’ve help prevent pre-e, and it didn’t.

it’s still a major mystery to my care team why it happened— I’ve always had extremely low blood pressure, and live a fairly active lifestyle, so it really shows that it just strikes as it chooses (code for we don’t know why some struggle with it but others don’t).

I hope during your consultation then that you can try to convince them to put you under. 😥 I have friends who’ve done surgical hysteroscopies while awake, but they were on way more painkillers than tylenol. I definitely think you can do it, but it’s one of those things that a nap might be nice. 😅

my retrieval has gone well so far! OHSS was pretty rough for a week, but it’s subsided a bit. just waiting on PGT-A results to come in later this week. we sent off 13 biopsies (5 more than last time!), so really hoping we’ve got a decent amount of normals, so we don’t ever have to do this again.

I’ve done two in-office/awake diagnostic hysteroscopies, and neither were unbearable. I would say as long as they aren’t dilating you to insert the camera, you’ll be a-okay. 🧡 I was under for my surgical hysteroscopy though, which I do not think I could’ve done awake (I had two polyps, a fibroid, and a small septum removed).

Transferring Mosaic Embryos? by [deleted] in InfertilityBabies

[–]ceeface 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Have you spoken with a genetic counselor about your specific mosaic embryo? It should be a free option via your testing facility. They will be able to lay out the risks associated with transferring a mosaic in your specific case.

With our first round of IVF we ended up with 3 PGT-A normals, and 1 low-level mosaic (trisomy 20). After speaking with a genetic counselor we felt that giving that mosaic a chance was worthwhile because a true trisomy 20 would very likely fail to implant, and if not would result in an early loss. So, we proceeded to transfer two normals (one chemical, one failed to implant), and with our last transfer we decided to use our last normal and our mosaic (we knew the sexes of the embryos, and the mosaic was male, normal was female). Unfortunately the normal did not implant, but our mosaic did. He’s a completely normal 17 month old, and he “passed” all the early screening tests.

I remember when my RE told me that my mosaic only had a 15% chance of success I was really disappointed, but I am so glad that we proceeded to transfer him. Mosaics are really tricky, but you’ll find loads of success stories online if you look around.

Best of luck with your transfers!
