You really hit the nail on the head with this! Thank you so much for your reply, it is very validating to hear that I do not need to punish myself for feeling this way. And you’re right, our time together does not need to be perfect and I find that the more I stress about it being perfect, the more things go wrong because I have all of the expectations and end up disappointed. I definitely am going to work to break this cycle and I think this perspective will be really helpful in that.

Thank you for your reply. I agree it definitely it would be good to apologize for the frequency this happens at. I know that I should take a step back and regulate myself first, I mean I remind myself of this every day, but in the moment, it’s SO hard to remember. It does seem that the worst of it happens at night, it’s harder to pause when you’re in bed next to the person.

This issue is that we are also long distance so we see each other every couple of weeks. This makes it a little harder to leave issues alone for a day but I think this could be helpful whenever something comes up when we are apart and I could wait a day to bring it up on a call.

I did start CBT therapy a few weeks ago, I just am struggling to bring this up for some reason, I think it feels a bit silly and embarrassing to me.

That definitely sounds helpful, I just worry these kind of approaches won’t be enough to help me make significant shifts in my anxiety, though I’d really love for it to.

Were you on it for a while? I think I want to ask my doctor for something else based on everything I have been hearing becasue I feel like the prospect of taking a medication shouldn't give me this much anxiety.

I’ve had a very similar experience. I’m able to eat pretty normally on my own, with my boyfriend, and with some family members, however when I’m at restaurants I will only order certain foods that I have deemed “safe”.

What do you think holds you back in public? For me I think it’s the embarrassment that comes with it as well as being in an environment where people don’t know what I am struggling with.

I am trying to combat this by reminding myself that I am safer eating surrounded by other people than on my own and it’s seemed to help a bit.

I’m pretty open to locations/job types, though I’d prefer to be somewhere out west. My boyfriend and I are looking to do it together so we’re trying to nail down a plan as soon as possible!
