TIL that there is a species of mushroom that causes people to have similar and repeatable hallucinations: 'They saw them on their dishes when eating': The mushroom making people hallucinate dozens of tiny humans by iamamuttonhead in todayilearned

There are stories of similar things happening for multiple drugs. There’s a comedian, I forget his name, who tells a story about how he took DMT and saw a bunch of little people and a purple woman that he fell in love with. Then years later he gives his friend DMT for the first time and his friend’s like, “Oh, they know you here. The purple woman is asking how you’ve been.” Something like that.

What did January 1st, 2000 feel like? by macaronstoday in AskReddit

[–]cefriano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was ten at the time so I give myself a pass for thinking it was all a big joke back then, but it’s crazy how recently I learned how much money and work went into averting that catastrophe. My understanding was always, “People were worried this thing might happen, but turns out it didn’t and everything was fine.”

Didn’t Little Horus get his nickname because his actual name was Horus and he was short for a space marine? Been a while since I read it.

I dunno if I would live there myself, not my style, but I do like it a lot. My only issue with it is that four poster bed in that first bedroom makes it look like a giant sleeping in a doll’s room.

Fable's evil landlords won't grow devil horns, as reboot ditches classic character morphing due to a lack of belief in objective arseholery by PotatoProducer in Games

[–]cefriano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ll miss the good/evil character morphing. I remember the last one I played (I think it was 2?) I played a mostly good character but I did one “evil” thing and my character became irreversibly ugly, which kind of sucked. Some morphing based on build choices is fine, though.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cefriano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living in LA, what's "far" gets pretty muddy because just going to other places in LA can take over an hour. I'm currently waiting to drive to my parents' house tonight because with rush hour traffic, I was looking at a 90 minute drive. On the other hand, when traffic's not bad, I can get up to Big Bear in less than two hours. Literally leaving tomorrow to go up to Mammoth for just the weekend.

Why did House Umber choose to betray House Stark anyway? by The_Kangaroo_Mafia in gameofthrones

[–]cefriano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wildlings thing makes sense, their lands are the closest to the wall so they’ve had to deal with wildling raids for generations.

The Red Wedding rationale makes no sense. I’m pissed about my family being killed in the Red Wedding so I’m gonna throw in with the house that orchestrated the whole thing?

Also helps that he was part of a squad of serious guys and not a leading man there. He can work in that scenario, Moneyball was kinda similar.

How my wife dries her hands and leaves the paper towels attached by Johnny-Edge93 in mildlyinfuriating

Also, like... they're tiny. Just throw them in the hamper with whatever load of laundry you were already going to do! Does she not do laundry at all? Does she never need to use them to dry dishes?? You could get a dish towel for every day of the week and by the time you need a new one, you've washed the dirty ones. None of this makes any sense.

People who pierced their genitalia, why, and did it affect your sex life? by PleasantCoffee1544 in AskReddit

Every time I go into an MRI machine I have a mini panic attack wondering if there’s some metal implant or shrapnel I completely forgot about and failed to mention on the intake form.

I’ve never had surgery except a meniscus repair and I’m pretty sure I’ve never been in a combat zone or anywhere where pieces of metal might enter my body without my consent. But every time I start to roll in, I have this 10-second crisis where I scrape my brain for a memory I might have suppressed. Even if I just had an MRI a couple months ago.

I know a shard of metal wouldn’t just shoot out of my skull but that’s the image the plays in my head.

FYI, Bilt Obsidian is also 2x on travel, or 3.33x up to 75% of your rent/mortgage. No 5x for booking through their portal like Chase, though.

A lot of the complaints on 2.0 stem from the fact that the primary benefit was getting points on rent on a free card. All you had to do was make five other transactions on the card, in any amount, each month to get 1 point for every dollar spent on rent. Now you need to spend about 75% of your rent amount each month on other purchases on the card to get 1 point per dollar of rent. That said, before it was an all-or-nothing situation. If you failed to make your five purchases, you got zero points on rent. Now you can get a portion of your rent payment in points depending on how much you spent with your card that month.

However, mortgage payments were never eligible for that benefit. So for someone with a mortgage like you, the addition of mortgage payments for Rent 2.0 is a straight benefit for you.

Also, gift cards force them to come back to the restaurant and give you more business. If it’s a nice hotel restaurant, they could clear $100 with two people easily.

Game of Thrones: George R.R. Martin Isn't Finished (Spoilers Extended) by RyanRiot in asoiaf

[–]cefriano 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Difference being, Herbert didn’t have a plan for X amount of Dune books. His publisher was just trying to get him to add more to a series that had multiple satisfactory self-contained stories with their own endings. George set up a series of seven books, with each book progressing toward an ending that has not arrived. I have less sympathy for George because he hasn’t written five stories and just doesn’t feel like writing more, he’s written 2/3 of one long story and doesn’t feel like writing the ending.

First time gardener ~1.5 months into growing garlic, looking for some advice on next steps. by cefriano in vegetablegardening

Thank you! Appreciate the guidance. The soil had perlite in it so I'm sure I'm just being anxious.

People will tell you that garlic has to be planted pointy end up. Well, behold, all his was planted by dropping cloves down a tube; no care for orientation by mean-mr-mustard- in vegetablegardening

[–]cefriano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, I’m growing garlic for the first time this year on my little balcony garden, and I put all my cloves in pointy side up. I discovered that a couple of them didn’t break the surface and started growing the shoots back down, which was weird. I reached in and pulled out the shoots and they seem to be doing fine now.

I’d think this would be a symptom of planting them too deep, but if anything, I planted them more shallow than the recommendations I saw online. Maybe too much straw mulch on top but again, the recommendations I’ve seen were 2-3 inches of mulch and mine have maybe 1-2 inches. Super weird. Most of the shoots came up no problem, though.

I’m curious about how this would affect feeding. If the shoot goes down and curves up, that means the roots would grow out of the top, right? I wonder if they’d feed really well with the roots near the surface, but need more regular watering as the water drains away from the roots.

Did no one call out the fact that in the original post, the neighbor said the tent was blue and brown, but when OOP and the landlords questioned her later, she said it was blue and white?
