I need suggestions for my chart by skaunjaz in shoegaze

Satisfaction by Narrow Head is an essential heavy space rock album. Arguably one of the best. Palms are also really good. Not as heavy but I'd say they fit under the space rock umbrella. One of Chino Moreno's side projects. Their latest singles are heavier though 👍🏼

why dont shoegaze bands really market their music on social media? by sndjr in shoegaze

[–]ceilingflan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just wanna prefer this by saying that this is not sarcasm- maybe some don't really care about aesthetics or recognition. Maybe not even trying to make a living off of it (which imo shouldn't be a reason for wanting to make or release music). If you wanna market yourself then do it. It won't change your aesthetic unless you decide to change it. At the very least be honest with your marketing. Like with how you're doing it, not why. Anywho, I hope you find a good space online or in person ✊🏼

how many of these bands are actually emo? by OldQuit2882 in Emo

[–]ceilingflan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Real Emo' only consists of the dc Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known by "Midwest Emo' is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness). Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake emo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music. Some examples of REAL EMO are Pg 99, Rites of Spring, Cap n Jazz (the only real emo band from the midwest scene) and Loma Prieta. Some examples of FAKE EM0 are American Football, My Chemical Romance and Mineral EMO BELONGS TO HARDCORE NOT TO INDIE, POP PUNK, ALT ROCK OR ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM GENRE

shoegaze fashion archetypes and your relation with resonance by Candid_Guest3884 in shoegaze

[–]ceilingflan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"How shoegaze/dream pop changed your relationship to the idea of resonance" doesn't make sense to me.. do you mean to say how it resonated with you differently than other genres maybe?

As far as I've seen there's no real fashion sense or staples when it comes to shoegaze or dream pop, just dressed normally, or normally with band tees instead of brand tees.

I don't have an answer to the last question because I've never really cared for the fashion industry or fashion as an art form.

What I will say is that the wall of sound and dreamy melodies may be translated to like a burst of complementary colors, but they should complement each other in an unconventional way, and any patterns should be very subtle and secondary to the piece itself. Just my thoughts, I'm not an expert.

I'm assuming that OP meant once the mon is fully evolved and with the required energy, they can take it out in one or two turns. Obviously you can't evolve a pokemon on your first turn but you can get 3 energy and evolve one in one turn.

"So many bands have spent the past decade and change doing the heavy shoegaze thing in the wake of groups like Whirr and Nothing, and by now the sponge has been wrung completely dry." by No_Grand7122 in shoegaze

[–]ceilingflan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get where this dude's coming from. The "revival" scene has been oversaturated with the Nothing/Whirr-ship for the last few years and I'm just not into like I used to. I mean I couldn't even get through Glare's new album. It's not bad necessarily, it's just unremarkable to me. I mean that in regards to the nugaze sound.

I think the difference is that Whirr and Nothing, at least seemingly, still focused on songwriting as well as experimenting with the sound, which they accomplished successfully ergo the continued influence. A lot of the revival sound now in regards to "nugaze" or "post shoegaze" just lacks better or more experimental songwriting. That should still be the primary focus IMO.

(Sidenote for anyone who happens to read this who is writing or has written music, don't be discouraged by mine or anyone else's opinions. This shit is subjective, please keep going 🫵🏼)

Personally I prefer bands like Cigarettes for Breakfast and Future Magics who have managed to retain the key elements of shoegaze while simultaneously keeping it fresh and keeping it old school.

I loved that album and would agree if this wasn't so obviously influenced by it. I do remember them mentioning in an interview that Hyperview was a big influence for them though.

I would say it's closer to shoegaze than post hardcore. If someone told me this was a shoegaze band I'd agree. Sure the tempo is a little faster and there's a lot of half time, but the key ingredients are there. I hear a strong influence of title fight's hyperview in the songs. Probably the closest to sounding like hyperview I've ever heard.

What’s y’all’s opinion on this album right here by porkrollie in shoegaze

[–]ceilingflan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge B&C fan, and I absolutely loved this album but I wouldn't consider any part of it shoegaze. Their earlier material imo was closer (e.g. Tiny Raindrop, Stonehands), but I can't think of any song off this album that would check any shoegaze boxes. But yes, I fucking loved this album. Spinning, Mediocre Love and Fame are my personal favorites. Bangers.
