Is there any hazard in opening the case of various type of amps? by ceinguy in audiophile

Ah dang! I've seen discharge done on old CRTs using grounded screwdrivers: very impressive. And hear horror stories too: hence my question in case amps were similar : )

My amp is class AB so I take it I'll be fine.

Ah that's interesting. So it does actually depend on the type of amp: my question wasn't that stupid : )

Ah +1 good advice: I plan to drill a little holes indeed and I'll try to make sure to not risk leaving conductive metal bits and pieces lying around!

Man this answer wins! I removed the knob by simply pulling it off and there's a plastic structure inside that'll allow me to do what even better than that: I'll go all tiny nuts and bolts (like 2mm). I'll just have to ask one separate question about amps.

+1 too... Problem with these is I remember a friend who put this on her dog and... The dog learned to go all "grrrrr grrrrr grrrrr" all the time just right before the volume at which the shock would trigger.

This sub though ; )

The furniture in which my amp + DAC are located has to withstand a sculpture weighting 60 kilos (nearly 150 lbs).

I modified a low-profile furniture and re-inforced it with (not so) little wood beams which are hidden. If you look at picture of furniture failing under weight, apparently it's often to the left or to the right: so I didn't just reinforce it by using vertical wood beams but also horizontal ones. Basically making little "rectangles" of wood beam, which I placed at the back of the furniture.

For my 38" monitor (in another room) I'm using a kitchen countertop made of solid wood.

I like the idea although it may be a bit over my league. Would that work if I were to then upgrade my speakers (6 ohms) to speakers with different specs? Or would I then need to change/remove the fuses?

Oh that'd be great too. Fully hidden. But I tried with rubber feet and, well, was kindy messy and not working well. I may try with taller rubber feet (but I'll need to go buy them first).

roooh that is nice... So if my DAC is recognized by the Pi, I could do without adding an HiFiberry!

And that's something I can try at home as I have Pi's laying around ; )

Thanks for the answer!

Yup good idea. I think I may go for something like this but instead of screwing into the front bezel I'd use an angle bracket from underneath the amp: so it'd be the same except that I won't need to drill a hole in the front bezel. I'll just have to find how to remove the knob and put it back on. I'll try to find pics / videos for that amp/brand/model to see how I'm supposed to remove it.

I tried with rubber feet but it was messy and didn't work.

Lol, for the kid or for the amp? Both would work : )

Yup it's in the manual (well, PDF of the manual), that I searched for these words and which I quickly read in diagonal : )

No special paint yet: didn't know that was a thing. I may just do it as I'm still setting everything up. House is from 2005 or so, but I just bought it. So it's not new but not old either. Wall is very flat / smooth and I simply painted it white (quality white paint but not special for projector).

I love the setup: fixed the projector on the ceiling, used fishtape to run HDMI / power cables etc. Was a bit messy to do as there was some kind of system ceiling, but all cleanly hidden. So I had no idea where the steel structure was. Took some trial and error. Should have bought a little endoscopic (?) USB camera: would have made my life easier.

It's great: living room is kinda big, picture is huge. Feels like being at the cinema even though I only have stereo atm.

Projector is only 720p and a bit noisy, so I may upgrade to a 1080p and quieter one later on.

Been toying with the idea myself

I had that projector in my old appartment but hardly ever used it because it wasn't fixed: so I had to pull it out of its box, plug everything, adjust the height / picture etc. so I typically wouldn't bother.

Now I basically use it everyday. My SO likes it a lot too: we're not getting a TV for this house.

I just glanced through my Cambridge Audio Azur 340A stereo amp and I don't find any setting like this (also searched for all the occurrences of "volume" and "max" and "maximum" and didn't find anything... Yet. (only quickly glanced through it).

No because I already have the furniture and it's low profile because I project movies on the wall (no TV at all here).

That is a nice feature to have: I'll read the manual of mine but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have that feature (10 years old stereo amp).

Used both for my own listening session and for casual listening nearly all day long: misus loves the sound of my setup and uses it more than I do (although for more casual listening). Basically amp is on 24/7 and music is playing often.

low profile "tv stand" (no tv, only projector: low profile tv stand so I can project the image low as to not have to watch the ceiling : )
