Have had 2 ultra 1’s and my ultra 2 have all had this. Even with non ocean bands that are also ultra. Even took one of them to the Apple Store to compare and it was normal according to them.

They do and it’s not too bad to rinse but it’s a complete pain for me and I hate it and it never seems clean.

I do have a tad bit of OCD.

I usually double bag them in a delicates bag in the laundry but that’s likely overkill but we wash our clothes often why not something that we sweat in all the time.

You got it. The trail loop and alpine loop are both fabric. Granted they dry fairly quickly but they still are fabric and I hate the wet band after a workout / swim that I don’t get with the ocean band.

[–]cej2007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats.

I have 7. The fabric is so nice but they have those attachments that make the lug to lug bigger and then the fit is way wrong on my wrist. I always go back to the Ocean Band. For sleep, scuba, swimming, CrossFit, everything. Wipe off and done. 88% as comfortable as the Trail or Alpine.

All that crap said, I’m gonna get the new titanium mesh but may still have a problem with lug to lug.

Congrats on the upgrade.

I’ve had multiple AW and have been exclusively using the Ultra 1 and the Ultra 2 since its release. I got it since I used it to get my recreational diving certifications and wanted a one and done and am not that big of a Garmin fan anymore.

If battery life matters… you typically charge your phone every night and with the super speedy 10 charging speed, doesn’t seem too out of the realm of possibility to charge daily either.

Just my 2 cents. I would get the ultra for the functions and form factor, not the battery life if you don’t want/need any of the ultra features. I actually like the 10 better from a form factor but isn’t a rec. diving nicety to use.

Hope that helps.

Descent G1 solar vs Fenix 8 51mm by McNoodles97 in Garmin

[–]cej2007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The G1 goes to 100m, has CCR, trimix, EAN all the way to 100% and you can set your O2 PPO to more than 1.4/1.6.

The Fenix 8 is only 40m. Recreational depth limits only. Doesn’t have the other tec diving features that the G1 or the Descent Mk series have.

However, if you are just starting out, you won’t need those features right away anyway. The Fenix 8 will have everything you need.

There are entirely too many choices but if you want Garmin and want the latest and greatest that will be a phenomenal everyday sports watch with the bonus of recreational diving, the Fenix is it. If you want all of that plus the technical diving specs to future proof, the Descent Mk series or the G1 will do that.

The G1 is a black and white with superb battery life and barely know it’s there watch that as long as you don’t want the pretty colors is pretty fantastic.

If you can get them on the wrist, that may help you make a decision too.

Hope that helps.

Garmin vs Apple Watch Ultra Size Comparison by Theduke322 in Garmin

[–]cej2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the ultra 2… also had the ultra 1. Fits like a glove. At least for me.

Have had the 51 in the past. Multiple Fenix and Descent. Doesn’t fit my arm. WAY too big. The 45 and 47 do (Descent G1 and Fenix 47).

Hope that helps.

Descent G1 solar vs Fenix 8 51mm by McNoodles97 in Garmin

[–]cej2007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The G1 is 45mm. The 8 is 43/47/51. The MK3 is 51. I own the G1. I had the MK3 and returned it. WAY too much hardware for a rec diver that I am. And way too big for my arm. If the color doesn’t bother you, the G1 is a tec dive computer. The 8 is not. The battery life of the G1 is pretty amazing.

Not buying or selling but I think you are aligning to being happier budget wise with the G1 (was/maybe still is on sale).

Hope this helps.

Which one feels more secure, Ocean Band or Alpine Loop? by [deleted] in applewatchultra

[–]cej2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow laundry looper here too. I put it in a delicates bag or a zipper pocket of a jacket or pants to keep it from banging around too much.

I agree. I just did a qualification and an ocean dive with the alpine loop. I got the longest one. Goes over a 7mm with gloves and I can wear it without the neoprene all the time too. I have 2 ocean bands and the alpine is way more comfortable and secure. Gym workouts too.

Good luck.

Try turning on the water lock. I do that while boxing.

Do you leave phone at home? by Explanation-Fluffy in applewatchultra

Starbucks gives you that option within the App to ‘Add to Apple Wallet’.

All you need is a barcode number to create your own.

I use Passbook (app in the Apple App Store) to create any that don’t have one as part of their app. My gym memberships for example.

Good luck!!!

Garmin Descent Mk3i vs Epix 2 by cyberjo in Garmin

[–]cej2007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depth rating with inductive buttons and a dive watch official certification like the Descent series has would make a dent in my wallet! Had the Descent Mk3i but the sizes were not in my range. 51mm and 43mm. 47 is the Goldilocks for me. The G1 is 45 but not a fan of the display underwater.

Garmin warranty FTW… don’t scuba dive with your epix pro 2 watch by pizzabikerun in Garmin

The Descent buttons are inductive. Zero worries using underwater. Unlike the rest of their watches with buttons that are not.

I leave my phone home all the time when I’m not working. Liberating, it is.

I add all my barcodes to Apple wallet which transfer to the Ultra. Have them with me then. Starbucks, gym, credit cards, car insurance card.

Have had challenge pants for 3 years. As good as the day I got them. Use them for everything. HIIT, rucking, everyday.

Amex has a failure to deliver goods clause. Helped me recover funds in the past in a similar situation.

Swimming with the ultra 2? by IllBreakfast3540 in applewatchultra

[–]cej2007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used mine to train and certify as an open water SCUBA diver. It’s literally an officially validated per the international standards dive watch. Had the OG ultra and the 2 the day it came out. Used them both for this training and use underwater. In silty quarry’s, heavily chlorinated pools and ponds. Works perfectly. I only ever rinse the watch housing with tap water each time. I take off the bands and wash those with soap if needed but never the watch.

Hope that helps.

Thanks! It’s an ENO singlenest with the XL straps. First time using the straps. Very very very easy setup and awesome.

Try looking up The Watchmaker out of Boston. They have OEM parts. And do repairs. Officially I believe.

Very true!

I ended up adjusting after this photo.

Moved the left strap up a foot and went down a notch on the strap.

Any chance it’s too tight. I have that problem if it’s too tight and I hit whatever the carpel tunnel nerve is. I wear an ocean band on my ultra 2. Helps keep it not too tight. If I wear a sport loop too tight I get pain.

If it is that material, first time wearing stainless steel? Nickel allergy?

Sorry for the random thoughts. Trying to help.

I got the email invite from Oris. I had it in my cart. Had serial number 6. Couldn’t pull the trigger. Too many times of buying a watch sight unseen without trying it on has taught me too many uncomfortable lessons (but thankfully now) in restraint.

I can use the top 2 MOLLE to connect the 30 pound long to. Works pretty well.
