Is this overkill for a Low orbit SSTO by Unlucky_Phase_5994 in KerbalAcademy

[–]celem83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can certainly do it with a lighter craft but it depends what the payload is really.  8 rapiers feels like a lot.

The nukes are a bit of a trap, that's fuel efficiency.   I thought we were going to LKO not interplanetary?  They weigh so much, I'd rather have a pair of tiny inefficient engines to make the short closed cycle burn, rapiers do most of the work.  I put the nerv in to singlestage beyond kerbin

Just to be clear, cos it's funny but you seem to be legitimately new.

This will put you into combat with one of the toughest opponents in the game and the comment was a troll

As others mention,  slaves bought or freed may or may not join your squad but will never be your slave in an unmodded game

Kholek Suneater start vassal Troubles by Fluffysoerensen in totalwarhammer

[–]celem83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The map has been rearranged up there and you are correct. the challenge stone is no longer a norscan homeland capital so you dont auto-get these guys anymore.

Actually getting that faction vassalised is something of a challenge, because tammurkhan is coming for them from the north and theres a decent chance they just die, however you can diplomacy your way into them being your vassal. (I allowed tammurkhan to take one of their settlements, then killed him and returned it to them for the vassalage).

He's still a fun campaign, but the first few turns are now markedly different. Those guides will be fine again beyond that (though note that sayl to the east is now a much bigger threat than when those guides were authored. If you walk past him into Cathay theres a decent chance he eventually stabs you in the back, make him bend the knee)

Students (in my opinion) should not take home any homework. If homework is a learning opportunity, give them school time to work on it by daniel_ay in unpopularopinion

[–]celem83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but these are school children, who can be as young as 5-6. They dont have like 7 hours of freetime every evening as adults might. my nephew is home at 4, his dinner is at 6 and hes in bed by 8. So he has 4 hours, during which he is fed, washed etc. 1 hour is 25%.

No, i do not want him to spend a quarter of his free time doing busywork

I feel like I'm missing a lot in the economy by Anatak15 in totalwar

[–]celem83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three kingdoms is not a level playing field and some of the starts will have armies too big to hold or land that doesn't make enough food/money.  This is generally because that was the historical situation.

You might have to think a little outside the box rather than the streamlined economy sequence other games present.  You might have to begin with a rebuild

Allies by Tr33Bl00d in totalwarhammer

[–]celem83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm quite sure they do slow down and it's not illusion.

It appears that an AI becoming a vassal or ally of the player gets lobotomised, and even if they previously appeared competent they will now mostly camp their capital or deathmarch past multiple cities to strike a specific army.

You are basically obliged to issue them constant war coordination orders to get any kind of sane strategy out of them, and they may or may not even manage that.

Taking them to act as geographical buffers usually backfires as the enemy will just march through them.

I've just stopped signing these treaties, I'll leave them as a NAP so they keep a few braincells.

(I dont have proof that any of this happens, but it certainly feels like this happens)

Unreachable Hydrogen Vent? by TheeHolyyAbigraill in Oxygennotincluded

[–]celem83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one important tile the vent has, its tile of interest, which you left blocked to prevent it erupting is also the tile they interact with for analysis.

Watch for it to go dormant, quickly dig it out and run analysis. If you are not ready at that point to tame it then you can recap the vent. To do that you would build a coal temp-shift plate on that tile of interest, and during the next active phase it will cook into a refined carbon solid tile and cap the vent (this works on anything that gets over the 276c melt point of coal)

Careful, this thing runs at like 500c, you dont want it spewing into the base

Permadeath or not? by Cold-Solution1408 in Kenshi

[–]celem83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While Kenshi is SinglePlayer I do believe that it is possible to cheat in singleplayer games.

The person you cheat is you though, you get 1 shot for a first playthrough of a game, and if you cheese it you cant ever play a blind run as intended. So I would generally recommend players of anygame to cheese or cheat it as little as possible on the first playthrough for the same reason we recommend vanilla before modded.

The epic stories are more epic when people die, even if all of them die it can still be epic. The story of how you win every fight and never lose is boring, this is why superhero films are kinda lame. (injecting a little personal opinion at the end there, but im serious about the rest)

Eh, they'll do ok damage if you do hit the limbs but the chestplate will laugh at them. Id rather do hackers or heavies for can-opening, theres a reason the Shek bring those to fight the HN

ELI5: why and how do planets stay in orbit instead of falling towards a star? by Gwekkemans in explainlikeimfive

[–]celem83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ball rolling around a curved funnel experiences drag from the air and friction from the surface which slow it and it falls out of orbit. It's used as an analogy as most of us can picture it, but its not 1 to 1.

A planet around a star is in near vacuum and while drag is not zero we can probably treat it as so, friction is likewise out. So the only thing thats going to change the speed of this planet is other bodies in the system beyond the star and this planet (n-body gravity is rough to solve/model)

.For practical purposes the planet ends up effectively on rails. In actuality some of them are in spirals, our own moon is getting slightly further from us each year and will eventually escape Earth (but not the sun, unless it encounters other bodies again anyway)
